Disney to replace Johnny Depp's role with black woman in Pirates reboot (and the pirate crew with foids). Black woman forum is convinced Disney is purposefully making a shitty film to prove diversity is box office poison.

Absolutely not . I feel like Disney has an agenda . They want all projects with minorities to flop so they can say see , we tried more diversity and it didn't work . I'm all for diversity but they've been making such shitty choices lately.

purposely throwing money away to embarass black folks seems the new agenda on projects that clearly will fail and have racists gather to bash

Bingo. They need to let the franchise go or because this ain't gonna work. Depp is too controversial right now so I understand why, but no. They keep setting up minorities primarily black women. When they could replace him with Timothee or someone else. They know this will spark outrage.

Kill this darn series already! That saggy, alcoholic ballsack Depp unfortunately played a character that is absolutely central to the franchise, so without Jack Sparrow it just doesn't make any sense. If Disney actually had any original ideas anymore, they wouldn't need to bite off the same tired butt franchises and set up poc and female actors for abuse!

Someone thinks the og complainer is a spicy industry plant.

It's typical and quite common on here. After moaning about full black women being replaced by biracial actresses and black women being overtly xesual, you'd think they would embrace someone like Ayo. She's a full DS black woman who is quirky and chill. She put in the work to get where she is today, so it's weird to see some fonts agreeing with that racist Mexican font about her being an industry plant. Smh I'm not taking anymore complaints about black women representation seriously on LSA.

More conspiracy theorizing in the comments.

I don't think Disney would be doing it on purpose, but it is pretty r-slurred how they do this shit. Black Ariel was not only a terrible decision financially, but do they not realize they're just putting that actress in the crosshairs for racist abuse?

In a film about how she couldn't talk she sure seemed to talk/sing alot

They haven't known what to do with Pirates since the first one was a huge success. They screwed up by doubling down on Johnny Depp and then assuming the films would continue to print money as the quality sank. Then they dropped Johnny over some bad PR during the height of the Amber Heard debacle. They refuse to admit that was a bad decision, since he was carrying the franchise (or rather, he is the franchise). So now the same executive shitheads that made all those bad calls have decided this is what will salvage things.

Disney should just drop Pirates and bring back Russel Crowe and Paul Bettany for a Master & Commander sequel.

Disney needs to apologize for that BIPOC actress for casting her!

Also, Disney needs to cast more BIPOC actresses!

It's not like I feel bad for celebrities, it just kinda exemplifies how stupid the whole thing is. Same with the Snow White actress, how many Snow Brown jokes have been made at this point?

You have to understand how deep the institutional rot has gotten to understand why things will not gracefully shift back with the cultural pendulum. It is still not considered culturally acceptable to say "no that is a terrible idea, we will make less money and our customers will hate it" in a meeting room full of middle management foids when a DEI person proposes some sort of stupid raceswap.

It will take an ongoing wave of sustained Ls for these people for firms like Disney to consider tolerating the voices of "radioactive" creatives who will openly say shit like this. They have all either been fired or castrated.

Agreed, a lot of people seem to think it's intentionally subversive but I think what you're saying is much more correct. The problem is they all got hired in the first place, then proceeded to hire people that think like them. I find the Little Mermaid/Snow White ones particularly funny though, because no one outside the most absolutely insane Twittoids would have had a problem with the characters looking like they do in the originals. Like no black people would have been like "WHY IS ARIEL A WHITE REDHEAD???".

Snow White is extra comical when she is the 1 character that should never be anything but white.

It made nearly twice its money back. With marketing costs it certainly broke even at the worst.

Face it, if it was white Ariel it would have made less because no one gives a shit about live action.

It's the same story every single time: people will say how diversity is a good thing, and praise the idea, but then complain when its used as the entire elevator pitch with disregard for good writing and directing. But then still praise the same idea.

The fundamental failure is the never dying liberal idea you need to step on the scales at the end of the pipeline to fix things and then eventually it will one day result in good black writers/actors/directors once you let literal whos take the reigns. Because shitty black options being force fed into the system naturally results in quality black people 10yrs later being respected like white directors...

Just like how affirmative action made education / good grades a popular cultural concept in the black communities...

Fixing the root problems is too hard so they make cheap frontline virtue signals on the most shakey hope and dreams it will fix the fundamental issues downstream.

The dumb contract studios signed with those actor guilds is supposedly poison a while back. Half the cast need to be brown according to all those film chuds.

Maybe tanking a few all black and all foid movies is how they get around it.

Your first problem is in your assumption that Disney wouldn't be doing this on purpose. Their stubbornness has got to be deliberate at this point IMO, since one has to assume the big brains at the top of Disney are at the very least smart enough to realize that heavy-handed DEI almost always guarantees a financial loss for their products.

Maybe the people at the top are simply ideologues who prioritize spreading the DEI message at all costs, even if it hurts them in terms of financials or favorability. https://media.giphy.com/media/R36XQ7vaKJl0OMGeIL/giphy.webp
