Not much box office news this week, but apparently Joker 2 is a contender for biggest second weekend drop of all time so we'll just have to see It could also surpass The Marvels as the biggest sequel box office drop of all time.
Meanwhile ticket pre-sales for both Wicked and Gladiator 2 are apparently pretty good. This bothers me because those movies look fricking stupid
Anyway, what is everyone in !kino watching this week?

I'm re-watching Breaking Bad.
I first watched it back in 2013 back when I was still in High School and this is my first re-watch. I remembered season 1 Walt as being sympathetic but now after re-finishing season 1 I think he's a prideful bitter c*nt right from the beginning.
Also, he's a Caltech chemist and he worked for Sandia Labs by the time he met Skyler, that's a research lab of the US Department of Energy but somehow he still managed to frick it all up to end up as a HS chemistry teacher. Then people will say that Breaking Bad wouldn't happen in Yuroop because "le healthcare" ignoring Walt is doing it not to pay for his treatment but to leave money to his family and that he could have gotten it all by takin Gretchen & Elliot's offer.
!writecel, the whole show is a huge moidmoment

I watched it for the first time last year. Not to be too much of a feminist , but I couldn't understand why everyone hated the wife character so much.
Like they expected her to ride and die with this? Idk man

Because she's contradicts what she says, lacks any moral standing because of how she willingly benefits from what Walt's doing, is extremely fickle and petty, and ends up betraying him yet somehow is portrayed as a good and innocent person.

I dunno. It seemed like she was only willing to benefit from what Walt was doing when she didn't comprehend how much danger he was putting them in. Hard 2 hatre her for being dumb, she never asked to be a narco wife

Walt is correct he is the danger, though, everyone who fricks with him dies. He even tries to warn Hank.

!kino, Walter White was one of the best characters that American television has cranked out in the past 20 years. Dare I say it? He is the best they've done.

Actually... He's a hero. A tragic hero.
There's nothing wrong with Walt. It's the entire world that's wrong. So why can't a man cook some meth?
And I liked getting mad at his somewhat right but mostly wrong and r-slurred wife.

I remember thinking Walter was kind of r-slurred the first time I watched, too.
I kept reading about how there'd be a point where he truly turns into the 'berg, but Walter doesn't really grow as a character, honestly. He's really arrogant but kept in check by his own nerdiness from the get-go.
But virtually all his problems basically just stem from his own decisions and weird sense of pride. Another thing is that it's never actually explained why a nobel prize winner would even have to settle for teaching high school considering his portfolio'd be pretty stacked either way. Breaking Bad wouldn't have happened if Walter just quit being a whiny b-word and actually enjoyed some of his own success instead of being an actual deadweight to his family.

He didn't win a Nobel, the team he worked with did however a theme on the show is how Walt constantly self-sabotages. Still, he left Grey Matter and his girlfriend because he felt intimidated and went from working on a good government lab to high school teaching, how? Probably because he acted like an insufferable b-word and got himself fired, a guy like him could have finished his PhD and be hired as a professor on a top university but my take is that he believed Grey Matter would fail without him, when the opposite happened he became bitter and resentful and therefore unable to held any job besides HS teaching which involves not interacting with any of his colleagues (Walt has no friends and his social interactions are limited to Hank and his drug partners).

The weird thing is that Hank doesn't seem to think he's insufferable and seems to actually enjoy spending time with him, which is weird since Walt pushed everyone else away.

My actual physics PhD uncle really identified with Walt as a brilliant washout. That was the last "new" TV show he ever got into.
Jump in the discussion.

Walt is a washout only because he purposefully chose to become one due to his pride (no wonder it's a capital sin). He had great opportunities throughout his life and squandered them all.

Pride is indeed the greatest of all sins, I'm copy/pasting this comment again from Narca's wall since it applies:
I think my uncle probably fell into the same category, unfortunately. Messed up and his pride was too great to pick up and network into lower positions or an adjunct teaching gig.

Once it's over I think we're out of proof that writers can still make good shows :(
Really interested to see how they wrap it up. Guillermowimping out of his vampire powers makes me think they'll end it with something awful like he retires from familiaring and finds a boyfriend and they live happily ever after but rationally I think that's just my pessimism talking. Even the wimping out was done in a fun and funny way.

There will always be HGTV and Food Network programming to fill the void. I think Fargo S5 also just came out, didn't it?
I mildly disagree that it's gotten better with time though, I thought seasons 1-2 were peak and they've focused too much on Guillermo and Colin Robinson to the exclusion of the group dynamic as time goes on. Haven't seen any of this year's stuff yet so hopefully you're right.
Edit: this year's stuff being S4 and 5, so really I just mean that I thought season 3 was worse.

I did feel like Colin was on the verge of being taken to an extreme because he was one of those rare breakout hit side characters who the fans loved but they very unexpectedly just did a nice long arc with him and resisted the trap of turning it into The Colin Robinson Show and that was that. That season actually had my favorite episode, the one with the home improvement show
I do understand the focus on Guillermo though; it wasn't meant to be an endless show, they have had a clear End in mind and they've been building to that and it, naturally, is centered around Gizmo. I can't think of another comedy series with an overall narrative and a clear beginning and end and while Guillermo isn't my favorite character by any means, I don't see any other way it could be done aside from the show just being season after season of hijinks until it goes to shit and gets cancelled.
My only criticism of WWDITS is there has been only one Jackie Daytona episode, I have no actual complaints and every episode is a treat. They even manage to make p-dophile Nick Kroll fun.

Also watched the first few episodes with my Dad who's a bigger fan of LOTR and the show than I am. It's decent but the fact they portrayed using the rings as a good thing or even necessary to save the elves from having to leave middle earth is so inconsistent with the themes of the books/movies and annoys me to no end.

yeah it was pretty fricking confusing, but tbf the The Silmarillion is pretty ridiculous too so I can't really say one explanation is better than the other. Even acknowledging wizards are angels is kinda peak cringe imo

After watching Evil dead, a few weeks ago (and kind of hating it), i watched Evil dead 2 today. And I didn't really like it (it's way too goofy at the start, and while it does get better towards the end it's still not that great). Is Army of Darkness any better? Because I watched these two movies, because they are prequels to AoD, and I heard AoD was pretty good and a cult classic.

Finally I watched some non-weebshit moving pictures and can contribute to one of these threads. Although, not much since the film I watched was Caddo Lake. A mystery-thriller, with not much thriller. And the mystery wasn't very mysterious shortly after a few key elements very revealed. But, to the film's credit it had one key element that caught me by surpriseboth main characters being in different timelines .
The story and characters, left little to no impression on me.
It was overall competently made, decent shots, had good pacing despit people say first 20 minutes are slow, had ominous soundtrack that created an atmosphere that the film did not capitalize on much, and finally It had one instance of bad CGI, but nothing major.
When it ended I shrugged and my only impression was well, that's that I guess. 6/10. It was a movie that I have seen is all I can say. It wasn't bad though, which is more than can be said for most blockbusters these days.
