It really did turn into a soap opera towards the end. The fate of all American TV shows that keep getting renewed for more seasons even though the story is over.
In Korea and Japan, at least back in my day, the show had one season and at the end everything is resolved. The main characters, the side characters, everyone's romance is played out like the end of Much Ado About Nothing. There's no need to do season 2 where everyone is fricking someone else because they need to make up a new story.

Well, to be fair, the remake Battlestar Galactica managed to milk stories from the 1970s show until half way thru the second season. After that it got shit.

I assumed she'd be smart enough to avoid a s*x cult after she got held hostage and almost r*ped on that prison ship.
