Battlestar Galactica was kind of crap. It started strong but got worse and worse over time.
It just stood out next to shows like Star Trek Enterprise.

The spiritual shit got really wierd. I tried rewatching recently but it isn't wasn't as fun knowing the twists and the pacing isn't rewatch friendly.
I still love it and it has the best board game.

I hated how the religious characters were always right about what would happen no matter how stupid it sounded. I think it’s poor worldbuilding for the in universe religion to always be unambiguously correct about its prophecies or whatever, and it removed tension in the story because if one of the nutjobs believed something than you knew that’s how the story would go. Granted I dropped the show after awhile so this might have changed, but I heard whats her face became a prophet or something and guided the fleet back to Earth, so I don’t think it did.
The show was sold to me as a fleet desperately struggling to get home against a superior enemy force — Star Trek Voyager but not stupid. They ruined it with the religion and the Cylon nonsense the writers obviously hadn’t planned ahead, so I’m still waiting for that premise to really be done well.

Nah, it got even weirder and you are right about the writers not having an end game. Very typical for the time à la Heroes and Lost.
Still had some great concepts and went into the whole "what is human" jazz pretty well.

Their main strength was the atmosphere of the show compared to other scifi. The dark and gritty with somewhat realistic characters kind of feel was completely different to the cheese that was around at the time.
