"NIMBYs" are the modern day "Lumpenproletariat". The failures of the system are scapegoated onto a politically convenient group of people. Instead of fixing the system, hatred rises against this group until enough blood has been shed. Eventually, a new group of people is picked and the cycle begins anew. "Communism" and other forms of Left-ish political thought is sinply the continuation of the ancient practice of human sacrifice. Spilling blood appeases the gods and ensures a good harvest. It is the most materialist ideologies that have been casting the strongest rituals.
