Gormenghast being tied with the Eragon books is all you need to know for the quality of this ranking. One of the most deeply textured prose works of the 20th century being ranked equal to a nepo teenage publishing a Star Wars find-and-replace fanfic.

Also time for boomer fantasy knowledge, but the Deathgate Cycle, which didn't make the list, is the most criminally underrated series out there. Published back in the height of AD&D 2nd edition, it's one of the last great series where the authors didn't need to include any meta commentary or shoehorn in present day identity politics or representation.

i haven’t read Gormenghast but i couldn’t even finish Eragon when i was 12 years old. it’s garbage.

i’m still pissing and pooping at TH White being well over halfway down the list. Once and Future King made me cry so hard, lol.

Six of Crows is pretty good reading but the rest of the books in that series are cancer

Yeah I hated it. :marseycry: They basically mushed the characters from her good book(the crows) with the characters from her bad book(the darkling guy and the Asian chick with sparkle powers) the story made no sense. The only good part is Jesper’s actor. I love him sm. Wish they’d just adapted Six of Crows exclusively I love shady gang adventures.

i have never read the books, but i was dating a russian guy when the tv show came out, and he wanted to watch it cause he thought it was funny. he was like “imagine if you emigrated to a country and there was a super popular book and tv series called Joeworld where all wizards were called Joes.” i too agree that this is funny

He was perma cancelled for sexism. Author is an og mgtow anti feminist schizo Muslim/Christian (he thinks Jesus is the messiah and son of god, but also Muhammad and the Quran are true prophets). The comic is all pretty interesting stuff and the much maligned second half is very interesting and only gets more interesting the more you learn about matriarchy and feminism. It is very funny looking at people calling him a schizo hyperbolizer when he was basically calling out all of the mainstream PC stuff now back when it was confined to academic circles and just starting to seep out into pop culture and corporate spaces.

Like when Cerebus has an extended filler arc for 30 issues set in one bar there is no skimping out. The art is just as good and impressive as the other more plot heavy arcs. Just look at how he draws cerebus arguing with himself. Way more impressive then any filler arc in a manga

Or how he uses different writing forms to represent different levels of discussion

interesting art. very manic schizo energy

i only know about Cerberus thru cultural osmosis since it was considered fairly important at one time. i haven’t read any though since i just don’t really care for comics. i know there are some good ones, but i read them too fast to feel like they’re worth purchasing.

I own the whole series and it was about 200-300$ (I don’t remember :marseydunce:) with some of the books being out or print but good for you you can read the whole series for free! Just go here and you can either download all the issues and use your preferred comic e reader or read every issue straight from the web page itself :marseylove:

i just read the first one. i liked the art a lot and the author’s notes at the beginning and end have a fun voice. i hate reading graphic novels on a screen tho, i always have to awkwardly zoom in and scroll around to really appreciate the drawings. this is why i gave up on Berserk too.

I have a huge 17 in laptop i read these on :marseypenis: The series will actually go public domain when the author dies so i expect reprints will be a lot more prevalent when that happens

I've been keeping detailed tracking on bad actors on Reddit for many years now, with an ontology focused on white identity extremism. The_Donald was a hotbed for the various dialects of WIE to synergise.

I have distinctions in the ontology for:

PostModern Conservativist (Standard Trumpist / GOP sympathies)

PoMoCons Government Coup A&A (Government overthrow sentiments) (Boogalorians)

Groypers (Nick Fuentes' American Ethnonationalists)

PoMoCons Anti-Semite

PoMoCons flags for pushing various "Big Lies", like "Lugenpresse", anti-LGBTQ talking points, and COVID-19 denialism.

WIE / AS (White Identity Extremist / Anti-Semite not otherwise specified)

This is a sample of what I would see in my tags reading through the comments listing for NNN; That has one of my older tags (The Trumpet is a "This is a THe_Donald participant" tag I haven't converted into the ontology due to the "transmisic core" tag which isn't in the ontology, and the "Anti-Semitic / Holocaust" tag is one I haven't retrofitted into the ontology yet, because I need more research on that user's beliefs; That's just an observation of their direct claim that "masks are like the holocaust")

Some of the tags were T_D users Id tagged as espousing explicit WIE / Christian Identity talking points. I had another WIE/CI tracked in the creation of /r/Wuhan_Flu as a moderator. When Wuhan_flu got basically insta-quarantined, they shifted gears somewhat.

A lot of them are not open about their sentiments on Reddit, however.
