!bookworms We reached the end of Blood Meridian, let's discuss the final chapters.
The Glanton gang was massacred by the Yumas and the remaining members were haunted down by Judge Holden, the grown up kid trying to save the old abuelita at the end of chapter was heartbreaking. Chapter XXIII was a great finale, the whole reencounter between the “Kid” and the Judge, followed by the Kid's death during a meteor shower (as it was when he was born) having his life come down an entire circle.
This was a book about violence and Judge Holden is pretty much the personification of violence, if the character is not a metaphor then he's pretty much a demon, but considering a more metaphoric approach, he represents men inherent desire for violence and conquest, the “wild west” spirit so to speak.
Next Sunday I'll post a final thread to discuss the book on it's entirety and for those who are behind to catch up so I'll try to come up with a better review until then. Hope you guys have enjoyed it! Then our next book is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.
Also, can someone make a Judge Holden marsey?

A series retrospective: Blood meridians ending gets a lot of praise but my favourite part was when they get to the ocean and theres something about "whales ferrying their vast souls". Really liked that part.

I thought the kid would live at the end
Good book! Content was darker than I originally thought it would be to be honest. It was good but I think I don't really care for the writing style

Tobin unleashing the

in the last part. How does he arrive at the well before the kid, totally unarmed? How does he constantly vanish and reappear during the shootout? How does he survive a .75 caliber lead ball through the throat? How does he witness Glanton's death, and why does he lie about it to the kid? Tobin is secretly just as otherworldly as the Judge.Jump in the discussion.

Speaking of which, why did Tobin ask the kid to shoot the judge? Holden hadn't threatened them yet (Maybe I didn't pay enough attention to that part as I read it in bed before sleeping). The point about lying and contradicting himself on Glanton's death is interesting considering everyone claimed “the priest never lies”.

If Tobin is the angel to Holden's devil, then Tobin fully understands Holden's intentions and is trying to warn the kid.
Also, people have mentioned being afraid of the judge before
