Day 1 of my seven-night Disney Cruise, and my trusty Kindle Keyboard died :( I had to pay for a day of wifi just so i could download the app and use my phone instead.
Sad, I've had it for a decade now. I fully charged it two days ago but now it's stuck on the screensaver.. Tried every reset procedure i could find. I didn't bring the microusb cable to try jumpstarting it either.
I've also decided I'm going to skip the rest of Dark Tower book 4(Wizards and Glass). It's a very tedious read and I'm not on vacation to punish myself. King is a frustrating author anyway with his made up terms and fantasy language.

Do you have to read books from the amazon store on it, or can you just put whatever on there?

You can put whatever on it. I have some pirated King books, an rtf of some stories I found online, etc.
Each device has an email you can use to send books to the device

I still want e-ink because it's best in direct sunlight. I'm not aware of any difference between my Keyboard and a Paperwhite e-ink besides the background color.
What sucks is we have a Fire tablet at home, it was under the Kindles. I didn't bring it because it's not ideal in sunlight. Now i have to use my phone with the exact same drawbacks.

Yeah if I ever go back to ereaders (I am an analog book chad now) I can't imagine using something that isn't a Kindle; the e-ink shit is incredible.
The (optional) backlight on the Paperwhite is a game changer though. I was worried it would feel like reading on a phone etc but no, it's just like a trad Kindle.

Ohhh ok thanks, i never considered a backlight -- that alone would be a good reason for early flights or on the verandah

My paperwhite was pickpocketed in Greensboro NC further cementing my grudge against that city
I enjoy my kobo reader quite a bit more and it's better so it's fine

The Paperwhite is great, I was gifted one on my birthday back in 2017 and it still works fine. I too prefer regular printed books but I use the Kindle to read books in English or those which are hard to find printed in Brazil/Argentina (much cheaper to buy the ebooks than ordering the printed ones due to import taxes and books are cheaper in Argentina so I always buy a bunch every time I go to Buenos Aires, gonna be there again in January).
