I finally finished In The Shadow of the Sword about Islam by Tom Holland. I liked it, but he spent way too long discussing Christianity and Judaism instead of Islam. I understand why he did, but I would have preferred more time spent on the actual topic of the book.

Now reading Three Sips of Gin: Dominating the Battlespace with Rhodesias Elite Seluous Scouts. It's an autobiography about a guys whole life, not just the bush was. I'm not very far in but I like it so far. His parents were terribly irresponsible.

The Jewish history part ended up being my favorite. Hadn't even realized how ignorant I was about secular Jewish history during that time period until I read that book

It was interesting, but I feel only tangentially relevant to the real topic of the book.

I also had taken a class called simply "History of the Jews" in college so I had a good background on it already. Class was boring as frick though.

It was a survey class so it covered a huge time frame. Hit the major beats from Jewish foundational myth up to the founding of Israel.

It was taught by a pretty Orthodoxy Jew and was dry as frick
