The Two Towers, probably going to be reading it for a while. I remember being bored and slogging through the ent moot as a kid but it didn't feel that way at all this time
The scope of the books is incredible. Geography, history, politics, folklore. Poetry in at least 2 languages. I get the feeling he composed some of the poems before writing the stories around them.
Tolkien was legitimately a genius. The only things not described in minute detail are the constellations
I've never read harry potter so it won't be a 1:1 comparison. It's a story driven novel and most of the exposition is for setting up the immediate surroundings, which imo pays off in droves. It's a slow read but I haven't once felt bored. Would definitely recommend, but take your time with it. I read a chapter a day and just enjoy his writing, usually I blow through a book in 2 to 3 days.

People are always really surprised by the poetry and songs everywhere in Lord of the Rings. It's beautiful.

It was really childish and when I read it as a kid I hated it. But now I think it's charming

How does it compare to, for example, Harry Potter?
HP moves at a decent pace, it's not heavyhanded on the descriptions and whatnot.
Is LOTR worth reading for someone who's more interested in the story rather than worldbuilding?
I've already seen the movies tho but still.

Cool, thanks. I'll check it out these days, tho it seems like there are a million versions of the books.
I'll try and find an illustrated one for kindle.
