I started reading Three Sips of Gin a memoir about a Seluous Scout in Rhodesia a week or so ago. About a third of the way through and I don't know if I like it. It reminds me a lot of Helmet for my Pillow (a book The Pacific is based on) Which I never liked the tone of. Something about the jokey "oh I'm such a rapscallion" and focus on stupid, youthful adventures of dubious truth really bothers me in books about serious topics. I'm not reading this to hear about these larger than life, possibly fake characters and situations, I'm reading it to hear about your experience in this event.
I'm not sure I'll finish it. I just got to where he joins the Rhodesian Army so I'm gonna give it a little bit longer. I very rarely put books down so not finishing this one would be a big deal. The only other books I've not finished recently were Wheel of Time books because they suck.
