To discuss the first 6 chapters of Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. I'm on chapter 5 right now so I'll try that one and chapter 6 this afternoon and post my thoughts then.

Ishiguro does a really good job at making me nostalgic for shit that never happened

He's also really good at writing mystery. There are parts when i cant tell if theres an actual conspiracy, or if the kids are just spreading rumors

i also felt bad for tommy  i want to know what ms.lucy meant when she told tommy he "doesnt have to be creative".

I don't know why, but I was expecting this to be some lit fic drama. Pleasantly surprised that it seems to be about mutant British cattle children.

>Why does Madame always take our stuff?

I'm actually intrigued by that

Ishiguro wrote several songs for the Grammy-nominated jazz album Breakfast on the Morning Tram. Several tracks and the title itself are references to his works.

Ishiguro didn't write the track "Never Let Me Go", but I still consider this canon:

I hardly remember it tbh. I just remember being confused with the constant time skips

I read this book 2 (or 3?) years ago and I accredit it to me getting "back into reading".

Although if you read too many of Ishiguro's books you will start to notice they're all more or less the same. Klara and the Sun is very good too.

Weirdly I hated Klara and the Sun, but I love Never Let Me Go. Maybe because I don't believe in robot personhood, so I never cared about the bot at all.

The Unconsoled is radically different and his magnum opus. It's much more difficult though, so one should read Never Let Me Go, Remains of the Day, and An Artist of the Floating World to prepare.

This bookclub got me back into reading (thanks @neoconshill), so I bought a kindle (previously read from a tablet).

As for the book, I already know that it will make me cry. Something about tone and content that makes me melancholic and nostalgic.

I had some school friends that lied like Ruth - to seem more important or cooler than they were. I actually don't know why they did that, or did they expect anyone to believe them. Never confronted them like Kathy did.
