Finished French Revolution and Napoleonic Era by Owen Connelly
Very interesting read, engagingly written and I learned a lot. For example, the Estates-General was campaigned for by libtard nobles.
Also a lot of shit about Napoleon, especially his domestic policies. The author seems to be pro-Napoleon but he had an interesting point that his defeat was a victory for reactionary social forces and extended the lifespan of powerful monarchies
The book says he was woefully unable to match the energy demanded by the system created by Louis the XIV. I'm not too knowledgeable about it but it seems accurate. Absolute autocracy seems like a job very few can pull off. Other than that he doesn't come across as a tyrant by any means. A bit of a who didn't really understand how to handle the situation and was both too stubborn and too conciliatory at different times. Moving into Paris was a boneheaded move. And their escape failed because his family spent too much time picnicking
