To discuss chapters XVI-XIX of Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go.
Next week discussion will cover chapters XX-XXIII, I'm currently 100 pages behind as I'm procrastinating too much at home after arriving from work, hope you guys are enjoying it.

So Im terribly behind due to losing my book for like a week, having to finish another book before Christmas, and other excuuuuses.
So my chapters behind thoughts:
Okay, I guessed it was something to do with organ donation and that's just been confirmed. But I really think the author did himself a disservice by not opening up about it earlier in the plot, as the sense of mystery wasn't so much mysterious as vaguely annoying. There's really no point I see to being so coy
On a technical level, it's beautifully written though and the characters come across as real people. I assume it's all going to end in tears, but in a restrained sort of way. I'm enjoying it, despite falling way behind.

With Kazuo Ishiguro, the sooner you stop treating the book as its nominal genre, the more you'll enjoy it

I really don't think I've been treating it as any particular genre. I haven't been reading it as a mystery or dystopia sci fi or a slice of life per se, although it sort of is all those. I just found the slow drip of plot points didn't serve any real purpose. The book wasn't improved for me by concealing the organ donation angle for chapters; it just made the vagueness vaguely annoying.
Like there reaches a point where it no longer feels natural for a character to avoid thinking directly about a subject, and we passed that three or four chapters in.
