Generally I have better luck with receiving non-fiction so that's what I ask for now. Anthologies are pretty safe too. Already read the quilt book (it's mostly pictures)
Way ahead of you there, I loved the Hyperion Cantos. A lot of scifi is derivative obviously but Hyperion was so original. And then he completely reinvented the series into something else halfway through.

I bought myself a nice peepeeens collection, a kipling anthology and I'm finally going to get around to reading canterbury tales to see what all the hype is
Thats a favorite of mine, the worst thing i lost in any break up was a tea kettle that heated the water to individual tea types. It was so easy to get the water the perfect temp for brewing. Also i quit smoking and Mullein tea has been amazing clearing out my lungs.

my mom kicked the bucket so I cleared out her bookshelf, donating about 500 books and thinking of keeping these. Very big on having offline resources for stuff lately. Didn't organize them pretty because I have a giant hoarder house to clean out lol
Also got a copy of "where there is no dentist" but gave it to my dad cus he's had to take antibiotics so long for his feet that all his fillings fell out and he has no dental insurance
When my dad dies I'm gonna get his books and he has a lot, particularly stuff that has not printed in decades. He has most of Dune in my favorite edition, also some old Folio stuff.
I got the Penguin Classic Clothbound Paradise Lost, both Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion Deluxe Illustrated editions(super cool), the Deluxe Encyclopedia of Middle Earth, Esoteric Napoleon, and the later five Witcher Books(hardbacks with good art, no pictures from the show or games ). Then I also bought for myself the first three dune books in the deluxe anniversary collection, and The Thousand Names, which I have been meaning to start for a while. I also went to a local used book store and bought a couple history textbooks I have been eyeing up, and last but certainly least was Barnes and Nobles, they had a sale but as per usual they had jack shit and even less that was worth anything, all I got from there was a nice copy of the Odyssey and Iliad.

I got the "Abroad in Japan" book cuz he's my boy.
And "Armies of Sand" which is just a turbo-neurodivergent collating a bunch of data to dunk on Arabs.

Omg bestie we literally have the same tastes! Can you recommend good/scifi movies and tv shows plz?
Jump in the discussion.
No email address required.
uhhh for movies i'm pretty basic here are some of the lesser known ones i've liked
Strange Days
The Endless (more realistic sci fi but still good)
Sunshine
The Fifth Element (not lesser known but I had to include it)
Predestination (if you don't already know the twist going in)
Arrival (another blockbuster but I love it so much, the short story it's based on is also well worth reading)
Edge of Tomorrow (FINISH THE GODDARN SEQUEL ALREADY)
for TV I like:
Battlestar Galactica (it has its problem spots but overall I consider this the greatest scifi television show of all time)
Babylon 5
Farscape
The Expanse
X-Files (obviously)
Fringe (this one's a bit campier than the rest but it had a really solid run)

Frick Sunshine is so good. I watched it like 5 times. Saw Predestination ages ago but yeh it was him the whole time lol.
I started Battlestar Galatica but never finished season 1 also got to season 3 or something of the Expanse.

It's surprisingly sad. So was Hyperion. I think a lot of books about the future are. You don't like scifi?

I don't think I've read much sci-fi. I'm struggling to think of any I've read actually
I've read Cat's Cradle

Yeh it's an acquired taste. I always thought of books as going back in time cause they were written in the past but scifi is an escape to the future.
