I've been reading one of the worst books 😔📚 ever shat out by the hands of Man 👞
It's a novelization of fricking comics written in the 90s

Finally finished LOTR. I don't remember the last time I spent that long reading a single series and I'm kind of sad it's over. What a good read.

Nice, I'm just getting started on LOTR. I'm only on chapter 3 so I don't have too much to talk about yet, but I'm really enjoying it. One thing that sticks out to me is that despite the strong sense of place and descriptions of physical environments, there don't seem to be many physical descriptions of characters (I think Gandalf has gotten the most so far). If I've seen a book's movie I try to create my own images instead of imagining Elijah Wood or whatever, but it can be easy to just fill in a blank with what I've seen on screen. What do you do?

I use a mix of the movie, the old animated LOTR and also this book:

The vintage art was much closer to the description of the people and clothes/armor than the movies in most cases imo

When I read them, by the end of the first book I had a wholly different image of Frodo in my head just from reading the text. He is probably the most changed character (for the worse) and I'm honestly continually surprised by how many people overlook this with regards to the "faithfulness" of the adaptation.

My friend is trying to convert me to Catholicism after converting himself. It's a valiant effort, and I'm reading his book recs of The Jewish Roots of Mary and Pope Peter by Heschmeyer. These are apparently the books that will address the problems I have with Catholics and Catholicism. If I actually end up converting, I'll impress my past self with my openmindedness, you know because 1: I'm gay and 2: I think papal infallibility is devil worship in action.
Hopefully we will have good conversations with each other about this.
That and I'm continuing to read the Bible, it's very dense.

Finally picked up a "Culture Series" book. I liked it. I can see why a lot of the tech weirdos really like them.
