:marseywhirlyhat: my single favorite sci-fi novel is A Canticle for Leibowitz which is a very funny early Hugo winner about a Catholic monastery in a post-nuclear holocaust world.

For other fun !Catholics sci-fi, both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis have given papal endorsement to Lord of the World which is a 1907 dystopian novel about the rise of the antichrist and the end of days, complete with planes, weapons of mass destruction and fairly prophetic depictions of modern mass communication technology. It's pretty lit. !bookworms

The Hugo sci fi winners used to be amazing. A sign that it was a book I should read that would likely change my perception of the universe. Now it's just whichever book has more alien lesbians smh

Any actually good sci fi since 1990 has come from Manga and Anime

There was a beautiful brief moment in cinema where Hollywood went whole hog on muscleman sci fi and it was amazing, Terminator, Predator, Running Man, Demolition Man, Total Recall, Judge Dredd and to a lesser extent Fifth Element. All awful but at least sincere, no sequels and no tie ins

You mentioned no sequels but Terminator 2 came out in the 90's and it rocked.

Same with Predator 2.

The main 3 Sci-fi book awards are ironically some of the oldest and most dumb culture war battlegrounds and historic as far as attention goes.
