No, GRRM's saying that if he could change the earlier books, he'd have finished the new books by now. He's referring to accidentally killing a character necessary to the plot of the new books.

That's a big part of the mystery. It would have to be a character whose death caused a major ripple effect. But it likely isn't a major character, e.g. Ned or Robb, because presumably those have careful plotting. So which minor character had a major death?
