I was bored so I decided to check what stage of cope Kingkiller Chronicle fans are in. I think most people have accepted that Winds of Winter is never coming out but for some reason people still think Doors of Stone will.

I don't hate him but I am severely disappointed. He's too insecure with himself to finish what he started which is a real shame. I think it definitely had an interesting world and story going for it.
Sadly he became obsessed with huffing his own farts with a bizarre combination of massive self-doubt. It's definitely one of the crazier author burnout stories. After he drank the woke-aid in recent years I don't think i'd want to even read the third book. He'd find some way to shove idpol into it and ruin the entire series IMO.
Reminds me of the author for ready player one. His sequel to his first book is so bad it's like a singularity of shit and vandalization of his own work. Incredible how badly he fricked it up.

Ngl there comes a point where it's taken so long that no conclusion can be truly satisfying. He's had two long books and we don't even know who the king is yet.
The second book kinda did a hard turn into "Kvothe fricks everyone" as if the author had just discovered s*x. I dread to think what woke politics would do to it.

The premise was ruined by the fact that Rothfuss forgot that making Kvothe an unreliable narrator means making him not actually do all those Mary Sue-esque stuff where he's magically good at things really quickly and is so overwhelmingly charming to the ladies with few flaws and even fewer that actually matter.
I can't get over the part where Kvothe meets the embodiment of evil contained in a tree, only for the tree to call him a beta-cuck. To which Kvothe responds by coming up with the Reddit-tier comeback of "at least I know her as a friend unlike her boytoys!" and decides to frick some other hot butt elf.
Nah, Rothfuss just sucks, his politics aren't the problem. Pretty insulting to compare Pat to GRRM actually cause George is far better at characterization than him.

the only thing I keep seeing about those books is everyone's absolute insistence that Kvothe is an unreliable narrator. While I i'm sure there are some discrepancies in his story vs the actual truth people go on about it as if everything out of his mouth is a lie and I just don't think that's the case. I think he really did do most of what he said because people tend to gloss over how much he gets the shit kicked out of him constantly, the struggles etc.
Now the cult of impossible s*x ninjas i'll agree, that feels like the author just taking the piss. Physics matter, size matters. No, some 100 lb nothing girl isn't going to easily overpower a 300 lb slab of muscle. That's some trash cop show fantasy that has no basis in reality. In the same vein people do not get to sleep around constantly with s*x bizarrely treated like a handshake yet magically none of these s*x ninjas get STDs. Just fricking stupidity and it takes you right out of the story.
In any case I have no faith he'll ever finish it and even if he does the expectations are impossible to meet now anyways.

I agree, the whole unreliable narrator thing is mostly overblown, which makes him more of a Mary Sue than not.
The s*x cult is meh, it's a fantasy story so I don't mind the weird logic around fighting and fricking. STDs existing in that world just seems like a narrative inconvenience .
What takes me out of the story is Kvothe being good at a bunch of things without really trying. He does struggle a bit but overall he's a multi-talented prodigy so it's kind of annoying when he's not given sufficiently difficult opposition by Rothfuss. I think it's fine to write really overpowered characters, but you need to raise the stakes to match.

that's the funny part, they absolutely do exist in universe but the s*x ninjas insist it's way more prevalent outside of their society even though they treat s*x like saying hello to someone. IMO the author is trying to have it both ways and it's fricking stupid. lol
I do like the theory that Kvothe is a changeling and that explains his prodigy status but again, idk if that's even the direction the author is going or not. He is definitely in the gary stu category just IMO not as deeply as the cute twinks on reddit claim he is IMO.

True I'm a huge Gene Wolfe simp but honestly Rothfuss' prose was just straight up blogspam tier. The perspectives are all over the place and unlike Gene Wolfe it's not really done as part of writing an unreliable narrator.

Nah that's fine I'm just giving you a hard time. Usually fantasy authors' prose is either straight up absent of any kind of sophistication and serves to tell you things like a News article or they're filled with overly flowery purple prose that doesn't actually add much to the story itself. GRRM lands more in the latter category, while Rothfuss is in the former (although he's kind of all over the place), and I detest the former group.
