I'm halfway through this book and it's a great one so far. Read Zero Day before this which was a total letdown (I fricking hate action driven plots) but this one is far more subdued.

Regarding cold war era espionage novels, if Tom Clancy plots feel like a murderer loudly threatening he's going to kill you, this feels like a demon singing lullabies in your ears while you're dozing off.

Pretty interesting and fun. I love how young Carmack was basically an neurodivergent psycho.

Good choice. There's also that Blizzard history book that just came out if you like this, but masters of doom was a lot better

Excession. I think I like it more than the usual long culture novels because it's so focused on Minds instead of his usual mediocre human characters.

I like it but I feel like there's too much military autism and not enough political autism. I would appreciate any recommendations on western history over the last ~250 years.

Got like 3/4 of the way through The Missing Boatman by Keitch C Blackmore but just didn't really care. I like his fantasy books, but this one is modern and about the grim reaper going on vacation and trying to get him back to killing people.

Right now I'm halfway through The Troop by Nick Cutter because I heard it's a good spooky book. It hasn't been bad, but it's more gross than scary. Kinda like Saw vs IT. It's a lot of body horror stuff and just nasty butt shit, which isn't my jam, but it has been good. Will probably finish it. :marseyreading:
