I watched a documentary about life aboard an aircraft carrier, and a petty officer was explaining some of the personnel issues they have. He said some people join the navy thinking it's a great place to find a spouse, and he indicated that that actually doesn't work out as well as it seems like it should. So that's when I joined rDrama to find a spouse instead.
They're starting to do co-ed submarines now. Now I'm not against feminism, my mom was one back in the 2nd wave and we agree about everything. #NotAllMen But this is the worst fricking idea ever. There's already been a scandal over this.
I mean, imagine it. You're forced to be in extremely extremely close quarters with members of the opposite s*x on a daily basis. Like probably can't avoid brushing up against them. And you're away from anyone you can resolve those issues with for months at a time. I just think it's really terrible to force men and women to do that and then act like it's their fault if something sexual happens. Back in my day there was an implicit understanding (because we weren't literally r-slurred) that you didn't get physically too close unless you were interested in that person. Avoided getting too physical with someone when you hadn't thought carefully about it first. Avoided other people gossiping. If you started dating someone people would see because weren't maintaining that personal space bubble anymore. We didn't have any of this shit of "we got one hotel room and slept in the same bed together but I didn't consent to anything" that zoomers do now.
This isn't about sexism. I would not at all be opposed to having a few submarines with all-female crews. (Although there would be practical difficulties, like you would need the co-ed subs for a while to train the first batch of women.)

Every time I get summoned here, I have a quick look around and find that this place gets worse and worse, it's like a black hole which mangles everything that gets sucked into it.
