A reddit admin was caught abusing her position to set her tile cooldown to zero (note: cooldown is 5 minutes and 20 minutes for email verified and unverified users respectively) in order to erase an Orange Cat (A) that was previously posted by Reddit on twitter. (A)
This cartoon cat was the creation of Anton Dimitriev, a Ukrainian artist who is currently living in Kharkiv that is besieged by the Russian military as we speak.

In addition, reddit permanently banned everyone who placed a tile in that area or tried to change her tiles to repair the Orange Cat. Merely placing pixels near the cat resulted in a personal ban, resulting in the bannings of users from /r/AnarchyChess as their subreddit logo bordered the Orange Cat.
People who tried asking about their bans had their posts removed as well

Reddit went a step further and manually gigabanned the accounts so that whenever you try to visit an account banned for placing a tile - you get this page. (this is the ban crystalvulpine was talking about when he said he received the ChuckSpears treatment)
Example of an account chucked by the admins - they last posted yesterday proving it is a real account. As you can see, this was an active and real account that was not only banned, but deleted (the sub he posted in has now gone private, so this is an archive).
2nd example - proof (A)
Other people caught on, resulting in posts calling it out that reached the front page. Initially the admins tried to do damage control by setting a filter on /r/place to automatically remove any post that mentions the cheating or the Orange Cat that was overwritten. Another reddit admin responded (A) saying admins have been cheating to "keep the canvas safe for everyone," a laughably poor excuse considering they didn't interfere with people drawing peepeees, the 4Chan logo, or swastikas over the German flag.

I got all my accounts perma yeeted during this lmao (even my main 11yr old account), that page not found image was my main shitposting account, they fingerprinted my edge browser to death, so whenever I create a new account and even by mistake login from my edge browser they immediately disable it, not ban, just can't login, reset password etc doesn't work. First they banned some of the accounts and then later on, the accounts remain active but you can't login/reset password etc.

It downloads a cookie if they give you the fake wrong password error. But they did somehow manage to auto-ban my accounts across devices, browsers, and networks, even when always using VPNs and TOR etc.

beloved around the world, they spitefully blotted her out pixel by pixel with their names on full display. It was like in Star Trek II when Khan is about to destroy the Enterprise but first he has to talk to Kirk to say "I wanted you to know first who had beaten you" except instead of a legendary performance by one of the most charismatic actors in history who was absolutely fricking shredded despite being in a wheelchair, it was two fat r-slurs 
powertripping in the most passive aggressive way possible where there's no possibility of anyone politely disagreeing with them.
Only the men and women who served with us in those days will ever truly comprehend the sacrifices that were made for our freedom. I buried the accounts of so many of my brothers and sisters in arms in the following days. Let us never forget.

FWIW my main "came back" as in I no longer see that page that makes it look like it never existed, instead I see the "this user was banned" one.
I still couldn't log in last time I tried but who knows, there's a chance at some point in the future you'll be able to get unbanned or at least access the account.

For some reason ever since 2020 they've been removing shadowbans automatically after some time, either unbanning the account or changing it to suspended. They even did this to the old shadowbanned accounts, even deleted ones.
Dude, you got chucked, you are never getting unbanned. This is only the ninth time it has ever happened in reddit history, it's the single biggest and nastiest "frick you and get the heck out" the admins can give someone. They may stop banning your new accounts on sight after a while, but don't even think about getting your old ones back or letting people know who you are, because you are among the most wanted redditors ever.

One thing that isn’t really mentioned much is a lot of the unjannied accounts got banned from doing anything on /r/place (something like a 12000 minute timeout). Somehow, that happened to my 5 year old unsuspicious main account but my (then) newly made account /u/nobaitistooobvious was fine

I don't remember how exactly they displayed the timeout, though I think it was
~5790(days).hh.mm.ssor such, but I definitely remember they were setting timestamp-to-place-next-pixel as January 19th, 2038. Seemed like they had a signed 32-bit Unix timestamp for when an account could place its next tile, and gettingr/place-banned set that timestamp to 2³¹-1.Jump in the discussion.

Getting an account shadowbanned or suspended is relatively normal. The gigaban ChuckSpears treatment is when they not only IP ban you and ban any new accounts you make on sight, but on top of that they also change your password so you can't even log into the banned account. Apparently this did happen to the people on /r/place, and considering that's only the 9th time in reddit history they've ever chucked someone /u/Chtorrr must've been PISSED.
Also, that account is not deleted. "Page not found" means it either never existed or is shadowbanned. If it had been deleted it would say "This user has deleted their account". They rarely use shadowbans on non-bots anymore because of suspensions, and when they do it usually means they removed everything that account ever posted or commented. There used to be a bug where this would make their account say "This community has been banned" because it would ban their profile subreddit, which actually happened to my /u/NotAVulptex account. So the fact that they shadowbanned those accounts instead of giving them a permanent suspension is worrying.
Edit: the "deleted" account you were talking about is suspended, not shadowbanned. It may indeed be deleted, but the owner probably deleted it after getting permanently suspended, not the admins. That happens all the time. All indefinitely banned accounts have that "This account has been suspended" page, it doesn't mean they were chucked. That's only happened 9 times:
