The real problem with the “redemption of the Golliwog” is that the League was never about celebrating fiction. It was always a mean-spirited hatchet job and worked best when Moore took no prisoners. Showing mercy and favouritism just weakens the entire approach. The Golliwog should have been an outcast in toyland because “he looks like a racist caricature; oh dear god why did we build that thing!” An actual black explorer landing and being greeted by the Golliwog with an offer of toast, marmalade, and tea would be hilariously awkward. All those pretty china dolls and puppets sitting there at the tea set table hoping beyond hope he doesn't mention the elephant in the room. The Golliwog would then join him on his adventure. If you wanted to insult Tom Swift while you're at it have the explorer be Eradicate Sampson the eccentric negro. A good twisted reveal js that Tom Swift was actually an r-slured child Eradicate Sampson the eccentric negro mentally uplifted and made the public face of his inventing firm. He, and not Tom, was the real inventor all along, but thought it easier to have a white boy inventor as the public face instead of a black man. Tom is just glad to be able to count beyond 25 and be able to read without giving himself a headache. He's unusually bright for his age, because the treatment accelerated his mental development to compensate for his r-sluration, but not a genius. He's also violent and still has that good ol' r-slur strength.

I thought it was a fairly good post and a rather twisted subversion of the Tom Swift novels.
