Necroing the shit out of this but I just watched the whole thing and he addresses all of this towards the end.
It worked more or less out of the box but some of the gauges were busted and had to be replaced for accurate sensor info. He had no trouble hooking it up but he appears to be some flavor of mechanical engineer so the average person would probably struggle with it. He had to read the (rather complicated) wiring diagram to figure out the sensor problem for example. He had a 270 gallon tank, acquired for free via fb marketplace, that he estimates will get him 10-11 days of power at his house's ambient (very low) load (however extended low load operation of diesel generators is apparently bad for them).
Assuming diesel price of $4/gal, it's $4.50 an hour.
He explains the main benefits of a diesel generator over gasoline or LNG/propane is ease and safety of storage and transport, and lower operating cost due to higher efficiency (like a diesel vehicle). Apparently large capacity propane/LNG tanks are ridiculously expensive, and transporting it is problematic and varyingly legal.

Did it work? How much per hour on a normal house emergency load?
