Prole pissed when someone suggests not ordering DoorDash every day

https://old.reddit.com/r/poor/comments/1b7hfr7/why_do_people_here/

Why do people here .. ?

You show people a way they can save a lot of money eating out (apps, save 50% or more)

So they lecture you that instead of eating out you should spend hours shopping and making everything from scratch like you're some kind of a farm family Like, some of us don't like to eat out or do it for convenience?

Or, why do people eat out when poor people can't afford it? How about this: you might be too poor but some of us like to if that's okay with you!!

They do that to steal your data! Like, using credit cards or loyalty retail cards or when they have your email or phone number, They don't also get your data?

I work with homeless people and I still hate them. Honestly I would stop doing it but half of the time that I go I get free food because they don't eat it. Like bakeries will donate way too much bread and then they can't take it all home so I just take home like 5 loaves of bread.

Working with homeless people is what made me hate homeless people, it also made me much more racist. Maybe 1 in 50 homeless people arent completely irredeemable pieces of shit

Imagine how many bridges you'd need to burn to actually be out on the street. Behind every homeless person is miles of people they've stolen from, lied to, molested and beaten

Jump in the discussion.

It's amazing how many people who have worked with homeless people hate homeless people. When I was younger I wanted to try “giving back” and spent some time working with a homeless shelter in my city. I managed to get myself to do it for a while, but it was probably the first day where I realized holy shit these aren't the same species as me.

The bleeding hearts crying about how we need to take better care of the homeless haven't spent a second around them. They ignore them in the rare times they see them in the wild.

Jump in the discussion.

That's the thing about “giving back”, it only works when they gave something of value to you first.

Jump in the discussion.

I get pissed off at them, but I don't hate them.

Most are batshit crazy, sometimes it isn't self inflicted, sometimes it is (drugs).

Most are still homeless because they refuse help. They refuse help usually for one of two reasons, 1.) they want to continue to use drugs (disagree with the wisdom of the decision, but I get it); or 2.) They are so fricking paranoid that they trust nobody and want to be off the grid.

The best way to help them is to force them into treatment for either drugs or mental healthcare.

Now, there's a personal liberty problem here. Why should the government say that you can't live in a tent and drink booze all day?

IMO, you should be able to, but out of certain areas. If you want to live in the national wildlife preserve in a tent with a bow and arrow, be my guest.

Most radlibs have never worked with them and if they do, they can't read people very well. You can't trust anything they say. 99% of the time they tell you they're a veteran, they're not. They say shit like "there's one gorillion unoccupied homes, seize them from the rich Monopoly Man and put them in them". Any action would be pointless without addressing the root of the problem. They'd be ripping the piping out of the house in a week.

Bottom line, their existence is due to the inability of society to come to a fricking consensus. Either help them or tell them to pack their shit and move out of business and residential areas.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I can't fathom the neolib logic that says that letting the homeless live on the streets, commit wanton crimes, harass everyone trying to be functional members of society, and generally ruin all public spaces in an area is somehow the more morally correct option to forcing them to living in beautiful buildings like this, complete with nature, parks, and a support system that helps them be productive.

Ignoring all the times they threatened to stab me (because thats kind of based tbqh) they are generally just abhorrent to be around, which is why theyre not part of society. Things like being super racist to volunteers (kinda funny), bitching about free shit and making r-slurred demands, literally pooping where they eat, being blackout constantly, intentionally destroying things they rely upon and then bitching its destroyed (very common, especially drunk indians (feather)), ruining free food after they eat purely as a frick you to the other homelesscels, etc

Poors who arent actually homeless but use homeless services because they are poor as frick are usually okay. Theyre smart enough to keep a house. Most of the time its just old fixed income people. I would have them help corral the more aggressively r-slurred homeless, which they are pretty good at

Hotplate and a skillet is $20, new, at Walmart.

You have access to outlets somewhere, even if you're stealing it from a publicly accessible outlet.

Nobody is going to hassle you for trying to safely cook a hot meal outdoors, despite what Reddit says.

If a cop confronts you, the pro g*mer tip is to calmly tell them "I'm homeless, I'm cooking a meal, it's a flameless hot plate." Don't traumadump on the cop about I'M HOMELESS I CAN'T EVEN COOK A DARN MEAL IN PEACE JUST LEAVE ME ALONE

How do you cook without a faucet? Genuine question.

Jump in the discussion.

You can get water for free almost anywhere.

Otherwise, buy a gallon for $1

If you're really really struggling, steal it from Walmart. Refill it literally anywhere. Again, nobody is going to call the cops over somebody taking a single gallon of water.

Back when I worked retail, if somebody came in with an empty jug and asked "can i get some water please", I'd fill it up for them, no question.

I have personally fired several people like this.

Often theyll burn up all of their sick time and then bring in a doctors note without realizinh it wont do anything.

My company gives a generous amount of sick time too. I had to explain this to a foid I fired. She shows up with a union rep and i walk in with her 6 month call out logs. She had missed more than 60% of her shifts.

The union rep read it and left.

This has got to be my favorite cope in the thread, following someone pointing out that home baked bread is actually a big money saver:

>Josiah-White[S] 3 points 13 hours ago

>Yes but white flour is little better than junk food. Only using whole wheat flour or will actually give you any fiber and some of the minerals

Yes, cooking your own bread is super cheap, but have you considered that since it's slightly less wholesome than wheat I should DoorDash Wendy's instead? :marseyroman:

Clearly man also could not possibly make whole wheat bread at home!

Lmao what a mook

Edit: And the :marseybrainlet: who thinks you need to supervise a bread maker is fascinating. They're made specifically to be used while you're sleeping or otherwise occupied.

Jump in the discussion.

I'm all for saving money while cooking but is bread the first place to start :marseyhmmm:

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

If you're working long hours and can't scrape the money for a used bread maker, then no. Except for quick breads, which are still worth slamming together on a day off and freezing. (Saving up for a used bread maker is still worth it in those conditions IMHO, but no, not the first place to start.)

But if you're working part-time (or living in mum and dad's basement) complaining you're broke, then yes. I'm assuming the guy with time to b-word on reddit isn't pulling a 13 hour shift meat cutting.

Edit: I'm actually speaking from experience here. During my brokest days I was gifted someone's old bread maker, and besides saving money, it was a big morale boost to have fresh baked goods that otherwise just weren't in my budget. Feels really good to set the bread maker to work overnight and wake up to fresh bread for breakfast and to make lunch with.

does baking your own bread really save that much money? it doesnt seem like the ROI would be very good

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Every little bit adds up over time, but in fairness it does boil down more to the type of bread you want. If you're happy eating the cheapest store brand bread, then savings probably aren't that worth it. But if you want real bread with minimal additives and/or solid whole grains, the savings will add up before long.

It's also just the morale thing of feeling a lot better having a good quality food item as a staple, as opposed to having to rely on shitty sandwich bread that just doesn't feel satisfying. Part of the ROI for me was that good feeling of not making my lunch sandwich with flimsy shit bread.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I don't know about sandwich bread but when baking pizza, I've found that with sauce and toppings it runs you about $2 to $2.50 for a personal pizza depending on how fancy your toppings are—which is about half the cost of cheap frozen pizzas, or about the fifth of the cost of a restaurant pizza.
