These easy to join ranked online games are my weakness.
I'm quite bad at it still but improved a bit over the past couple of weeks. Now I've managed to reach a point where everyone knows a bunch of cheap tricks. Every game starts with trying a quick checkmate with their queen and bishop and if they can't do that they try to do that thing with the knight where they check and then take the rook.
But otherwise, unlike other games, I don't mind losing too much. If someone beats me in a clever way it's interesting to see how they did it. That's a nicer feeling than raging at the game mechanics or at my teammates or something.

Chess is fun but it becomes extremely lame anytime you play someone who has read anything about strategy or “game plans”, I like playing with friends for this reason but online sucks.

I like playing strat games when I don't feel like storylines and dying 80 times in a game. lol I like AoEII to relax and play or SIMS. I like to play chess but I'm not great at it so haven't played in a long while. My dad taught me how to play, so it's nostalgic for me.

yeah but making an acct is trivial + they probably actually do play and then their score tanks because they're 1800 and lost to a 1200, get mad then repeat.

probs, it doesn't feel like I'm playing against a bot. Everyone plays with their own particular style unless the bots can mimic that too idk

Kinda how I feel about Hearthstone. I loved that game when it first came out. I'd win like 7/10 games against other players. Took a break and came back and it's all bots. I think it might be 1/10 games are actually other players. I love the game but so many bots now.

I played that a bit when it came out. Kind of chess feels to it tbh. I can't remember why I quit now, maybe they had some pay to win mechanic or something.

I think they did. I never paid, but it was fun at first. It's a good zone out but play a game and get out without hours of storyline and such.
