Me judging the middle aged lonely American women on 90 days fiancé (why do they think dating a brown frickboy 20 years younger than them will work out ok??)
He was shipping out and she had just come of out of being a british house child (Basically a foster kid but she had to work a gas pump and wasn't allowed to eat with the family she lived with) and had nothing to her name
That's really cool!!! Hey do I need to get a serger AND a heavy duty sewing machine?
I want to make some beautiful dresses for work. There are high end fabric stores in Chicago so I know I can get good materials like tweed and good wool etc.
I have a gorgeous lavender wool coat I bought on sale that's too big that I also need to get taken in but maybe I can do it myself 🤔 I actually have sewed a little before but I am not good with hand sewing AT ALL.
What kinds of things do you make?? I had no idea about your interest/talent.
Hmm you probably dont need a serger, just buy a higher end machine. You can so everything a serger can do on a nice machine, sergers just make it simpler. but if you are learning it would probably be more beneficial to learn to do it yourself and get good that way instead of having the serger do it all for you. Might be a little bit of trial and error but having the basics down is important. Im not sure what alterations you need to make exactly but if its something like length or sleeve length that's really easy and would be a great starting project! But DEFINITELY get the machine down pat first, ive ripped enough stiches to know that. I mainly make cosplay/ren fair/nerd shit. I'm not nearly as talented as my mom but I have won some awards before so I'm happy with it.
100% agree. @FrozenChosen sergers are expensive and fairly complicated to use but yield extremely strong/clean/trimmed results, but it's only really apparent on close inspection when you're looking at something inside out.
I have both a serger and sewing machine as well and you'd do best to go all in on a heavy duty sewing machine. If you can find an older mechanical one on craigslist with cams instead of new computer-controlled ones it will basically sew anything from silk to denim or leather. You can ping my mom w/questions as well, as she's the one who taught me everything like how to fix old clothes and stuff
One thing I recommend is a good organizer for all your thread and spare parts like extra bobbins, feet, needles, scissors, etc. I have this one and it's worth every penny:
(Avoid any organizers with cloudy looking plastic because you'll never be able to find anything forcing you to constantly open it up and spill shit everywhere.)
I had no idea we had so much talent on rdrama!!! This is sooo cool to learn about you. Thanks for the info. Def will get the best heavy duty machine I can find/afford. Thank you!!
I actually have sewed a little before but I am not good with hand sewing AT ALL.
Checks and gingham are your friend for this. These metal "x clips"/shirt clips make for decent "training wheels" for hand stitching as well. (they need to have the flat sections, round is worthless) They hold really well, tessellate, and you can sew right over them. You can start with them pretty much continuously and then make them wider apart and squeeze stitches in between as you improve.

>I've made a basket on Amazon of like $800 of sewing supplies pls help
Post your fantasy haul! Please tell me you hit that by having a brand new computerized machine/serger in there? I'm actually enjoying sewing a lot and I don't think I'd come close to that without my Singer 6180 and 14u44 serger... Even then I got both machines for bargain prices on Ebay. I also probably could've saved a bundle in hindsight.
I don't know of those pictured scissors but those prices are comparable to nice Singer/Fiskars shears. Good cutting cowtools are worth their weight in gold and I'd caution gambling there. I'd also recommend getting a set of pinking/zig-zag shears that cut down on fraying instead of two pairs of straight shears. The form is really nice but you can save a bundle there with an inexpensive one and some thin packaging foam. Basically cut/pin the foam directly to the form's foam, and the cover stretches right over it. I think the one I'm working with was like $40? Definitely check Ebay, even for the same machines you can find like $100ish in savings on each. Good luck!

On one of my very last days as a teenager, as I was sitting at my usual place at the food court outside Domino's, I saw a sight that shattered my heart to pieces. A tall, blonde, jock-type guy walked into one of the restaurants, and at his side was one of the sexiest girls I had ever seen. She too was tall and blonde. They were both taller than me, and they kissed each other passionately. They made me feel so inferior and worthless and small. I glared at them with intense hatred as I sat by myself in my lonely misery. I could never have a girl like that. The sight was burned into my memory, and it caused a scar that will haunt me forever. When they walked away, I followed them in my car for a few minutes, and when they entered a less inhabited area I opened my window and splashed my iced tea all over them. It was all I could do at the time, but at least it was something. At least I made some effort to fight back against the injustice. I felt sick with hatred that night. The hatred boiled inside me with burning vitriol.

It's not just the machine (which obviously isn't small), you also need to store all the other stuff, pins threads fabrics etc.
Best of luck. Regardless it'll feel better to throw some shit out and tidy up. I love doing that.
