Road tripping across the northern US can some burgers give me tips

Starting in Washington and moving east to DC then up to Maine. I kind of want to see Mount Rushmore, I know it's suppose to be underwhelming but I feel like it's worth it before the whites convince the natives to blow it up. I'm moreso looking for routes to avoid but if anyone knows a cool place to hit lemme know. I'll probably be heading out at the end of September also kind of on a time limit since the whole reason I'm doing it is to drop off a car for my friend.

Love you all!

Grand Teton and Badlands national parks should be roughly along your route, definitely see Grand Teton, Badlands is neat but not essential

Mt. Rushmore really is underwhelming but worth having been there once I guess

There is almost nothing interesting east of Badlands for about a thousand miles

I recently went to Mt. Rushmore and wasn't underwhelmed at all. I'm my opinion it looks really cool and the the viewing area is classy.

I think most people assume it's bigger than it is. IDK, still sounded cool. I went through SD recently and thought about making a detour only to realize I was on the opposite side of the state.

But I remember it's smaller than you'd think and the fog can make it unseeable sometimes.

it's not bad or anything but I found the natural landscape of the Black Hills (where it's located) to be more interesting

maybe it was just the circumstances when I went. I drove all the way across SD that day and was worn out

Thanks. I've done the drive a couple times on the Canada side so I'm used to driving without seeing a town for 500+ km. If there's really nothing past badlands I could go more south, I imagine it's probably better to just rush through it though.

I thought Mt Rushmore was cool, plus you'll likely see buffalo maybe even up close (they were licking the windows on our car). Obvs the big wagon in Spokane, and if you're in Spokane you owe it to yourself to get a calzone at Pete's (the GU location has better atmosphere). Deadwood, SD was fun and I thought the people in Sioux Falls were really nice. Indiana has weird liquor laws and I was not a fan.

I didn't even know there was a ferry from Green Bay. That's kinda weird given the placement geographically. Where does it get off in Michigan?

IDK your route, but Green Bay is 8-10 hours north of Chicago and it's not terribly exciting if you're not a member of the Packers' faithful. I guess there's a lot of of dive bars to hit up. Going that far north you're going to be spending a lot of time traveling south back to Detroit elevation and going through Canada or south into Ohio if you're staying in the States.

I'm pretty sure there's ferries that go from Sheboygan and Mantiwoc (I think) that don't require you to be as north as Green Bay and you wouldn't have to go around the Door County peninsula. However if you do go to the Green Bay area, there's lots of wineries in and cutesy B&Bs in Door County; it's quite nice in the fall.

I have to go up to Toronto anyway, so that's why I'd be that far up north. I think the ferry you're talking about is the one I'm thinking of, I might skip it if there's really nothing there though lol. I've literally only done preliminary stuff.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

My point was there's more lakes in the way so you'd have to swerve south for hours anyway to either go the path of Toronto or Ohio (both boring, btw) they're quite south of Green Bay. Also you'd have to go around the pretty big peninsula if you boarded in Green Bay which would probably add more time of sitting on a boat. You'd probably get through quicker if you went for one of the other ports. Upper/mid Wisconsin can be beautiful with the rolling hills and forests but driving through it gets old quickly.

If you want you can stop near outer Wausau for the odd smell of paper manufacturing! IDK why it smells that bad but it does. Uncle Ted was right and we didn't need paper

Stay out of my shed

Get an iPass if you don't have one. Some states like Indiana are dumb as shit and otherwise require you to settle up immediate with a credit card and they put a stupid bracket over the card slot so you end up dropping your card on the ground.

My advice is to point your car south and keep driving until you smell BBQ. Don't trust the Yankee devils. Not only will they burn down your farm, they'll put chili on your spaghetti. They ain't right.

I poop like once every 5 days. It's abnormal but it has its benefits. In the past at boy scouts camping the elongated poop cycle has prevented me from pooping in the disgusting butt port a potty daily. Cameras in my room have prevented me from beating my meat despite my high s*x drive. Also I've developed a habit after pooping and wiping I can fap camera free and c*m on my potty seat followed by a refreshing shower afterwards which prevents me from staining my undies and gassing my pants with poop particles and post c*m all the while controlling my fap addiction. I guarantee you that my poopin session feel more satisfactory then your daily rabbit drops too, and it's not even excessive poop only like 5, 6 inchers with the time to time butt pinch bc theyre kind of dry.

I wouldn't say there are "routes to avoid". Take whatever is the fastest way between destinations. As long as you're hitting national parks there will be good stuff to see. The Dakota Badlands park is close to Mt Rushmore so see that one. There really isn't shit to do after that so keep driving until you get to Chicago or Nashville. Since you're gay you really need to check out the cities, especially the large ones. Chicago has at least one gay neighborhood.

There's nothing "must see" between Chicago and DC besides the Appalachian trail maybe. For DC, try to get a tour of the Capitol if you can. Baltimore has a nice aquarium but is otherwise lacking in stuff to do. For the Philly area (where I'm from), see Longwood Gardens, the Gayborhood, the italian market, and John's Roast Pork if you want a cheese steak. After that it's a 2 hour drive to NYC, which you can spend some amazing days in, but the hotel prices are murder. It has the best art museums in the US and the largest gay scene in all of North America.

Make a slight detour and head north along the Hudson into upstate New York. You'll get a great view of the fall leaves. Then you can turn east and head to wherever in Maine you're going. Skip Boston, unless you're some kind of academiacel and you wanna see the Harvard and MIT campuses. The drive there is trash and the sights are trash.

The drive to/through Maine will be a lot of little towns and mostly forest. Haven't been there so idk if there's anything you absolutely must see.

None of the east coast cities I mentioned are dangerous btw. As a tourist, you have no reason to go to the bad neighborhoods and even if you decide to go out of your way to see them, you will not be shot or mugged just for walking through. Gang violence is only bad for the people living in those neighborhoods or connected to gangs/drugs. The biggest hazard you will face are aggressive panhandlers who sometimes look for a fight. I hear it's the same in Canadian cities so you probably know how to deal with that.

Honestly just come to Canada instead, drive through the rockies through BC and Alberta, visit Banff and Lake Louise. Hang a right at Calgary and go through Montana, hit Yellowstone, then go to South Dakota and see Rushmore.

Your probability of getting shot or carjacked in Canada are like zero and the Canadian rockies are magical.
