Update: How to get even better at overcoming distractions and improving focus

Making some additional points I realized I missed out in previous post.

1. Once you overcome the general distractions like games, tv, procrastinating, etc, you move on to more abstract distractions that you must discard. Anxiousness, self doubt, sadness. Whenever you feel any of these emotions you throw them into the disposal just like you did with the thoughts of procrastination. Funnily enough once your brain figures out how to do it for solid ideas like playing or looking up random videos on youtube, the same method also works for emotional calibration. Every time you feel random sadness or random self doubt or random anxiousness you discard it and be like, no, distracting thought. With practice you get better at it.

2. Rest. What many of us end up doing right now is that when we lose focus we start doing something else that we naturally enjoy more or are more used to doing to pass the time.

We replace one stimuli with another stimuli. This is not helpful at all and actually makes things worse.

here is why.

To maintain strong focus you need your mind to be well rested. Stimuli that you do not enjoy suck out energy more strongly than stimuli that you enjoy, but at the end of the day both of those are still sucking the energy out of you.

To get back on track as fast as you can, you want to be resting again to recharge your batteries, instead of shifting the focus to another stimuli, which just keeps tiring you out more and making further focus even harder.

Think of your focus like a phone battery, you need the top 50% to focus on things that matter. Once you go below 50% you are only able to focus on things that don't really matter and don't need actual thinking for you to enjoy them. Now doing those things is still depleting your battery further below 50%.

However, if instead when you got below 50% battery after intently focusing on difficult things, you then take a proper rest, like closing your eyes for a few minutes, or a nap, or sleep for the night on time, your battery is once more getting charged above 50% which allows you to keep working on tasks that require focus longer.

Recharge your battery with rest to keep working longer. Instead of further depleting the battery on something else that doesn't matter as much.
