Just to be clear, you do understand that these kittens are not getting pregnant any time soon? That getting them fixed is a matter of convenience for us, not really related to how their bodies actually work.
Somehow trying to talk about cat sexuality is as awkward as human. "You see, they don't always... like every day of the week... they don't..."
This usually begins at 5–6 months of age, though kittens as young as 3 or 4 months old have been known to start their heat cycles, depending on the time of year they're born.

Bullshit. My [name redacted because she was underage] (NOT Sasha) went into it at about 12 months. And she still was stupid and acted like a teen parent and we had to take care of everything. Like when you're carrying the kittens from one place to another, remember that you have 3 of them. Don't just leave the third one stranded so we have to carry her to you. And don't go to the original kitten location and not find a fourth kitten and then go into a panic that one of your kids just got killed.

It depends on things. Our latest rescue was at best 6 months old and very pregnant. So I trust the random internet page that told me that that and even earlier heats are possible.

No shit, and a 6 month old or younger cat can just straight up die giving birth. So it's prudent to spay them first.
