My frick up cousin wants to meet my brother and I for golf while he is in town for thanksgiving. He was never that fun of a drug addict, just oxy and Xanax that he managed to hide from everyone but me for years. He stole from everyone. Would pop Xanax at the bar and start fights. Regularly bartarded at weddings and family events, his parents were too hammered to notice or care.
His wife, a sweetheart, forced him to go to rehab after he nodded off while watching their new born.
Now he is all spiritual. California sober, blames booze for all his frick ups when it was really Xanax. still eats shrooms at phish shows all the time. He is also pretty loaded and hardly has to work, once his parents die he won't have to. One of his biggest gripes with me is that I flushed $500 worth of oxy down the potty the day of his wedding day. I had just buried a close friend that OD'ed and saw him crushing a pill in the bathroom. . Despite being sober Now, he still brings it up.
Anyway, he texted us and requested we don't drink on the course. I told him not to come if he was going to be cute twink and it's not our fault that he never listened to us. This is our day to get away from work and kids, if he doesn't want to drink that's great but I don't want to hear his new age hippie bull shit for 4 hours
Now i am getting calls from my aunt (massive boozer) about it. How they are uncomfortable coming to our thanksgiving cause wine will be served.
Thankfully his wife is on our side and said he regularly goes out to concerts where everyone is drinking and is fine. His parents after years of neglect, blame my brother and I for fricking him up,

Sounds like an unironic red flag. Shouldn't care about this if he truly understands how bad drugs were fricking him up. Otherwise, why be mad about missing out on a high?

He got drunk one night and for a laugh told the story in front of his wife. He was in rehab a few months later. She didn't know he was high at the wedding until then
So our working theory is he blames us for the sobriety

I think he has kicked the pills, mainly cause his social circle in town has grown up or died.
He never had a problem with booze, he had a problem mixing Xanax with booze.
