The Adult Survivors Act (ASA) is New York State legislation enacted in May 2022 which amends state law to allow alleged victims of sexual offenses for which the statute of limitations has lapsed to file civil suits for a one-year period, from November 24, 2022, to November 24, 2023. Before 2019, a three-year statute of limitations applied to civil suits for sexual misconduct in New York. In 2019, New York extended the statute of limitations for civil suits arising from s*x crimes against adults to 20 years, but this extension was not retroactive.

In 2022, the ASA was enacted. The bill was sponsored by state Senator Brad Hoylman and Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal. It unanimously passed the Senate in April 2022, passed the Assembly on a 140–3 vote in May 2022, and was signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul.

The chuds are claiming this law was passed as a political hit job against Trump and coincidently Caroll hit him with a case the day the law passed. Why are they so r-slurred? I have no doubt about Carroll being used as a political battering ram but they can't accept that their daddy just got rolled in court.

Carroll and her lawyers had a year and a half to prepare this.

I don't get your point. That was not a coincidence, they passed a law specifically to allow her to sue past the statute of limitations (the 20 years even if it was retroactive) and so she did so as soon as the law went into effect.

Crazy that Caroll actually started this lawsuit in 2016 and had to put it on hold while Trump was in office, so any conspiracy after 2016 doesn't even make sense

Holy shit lmao. I thought it extended the statue of limitations or something. But nope, it's literally just "yeah it's open season, statue of limitations don't matter, for exactly one year".

I swear these people should just push a bill to eliminate statue of limitations altogether if they're so fricking pressed about it. They won't because that's incredibly r-slurred but this kind of doubletalk really pisses me off.

That's what I had assumed but it passed the NY State Senate with unanimous support and only had 3 nays in the house.
