Lol people are absolutely mind broken on this issue. Remember when ostensibly non-partisan media said anyone not in favor of eternal occupation of Afghanistan was pro-Jihad?
All the Republicans had to do to win Afghanistan was say they weren't willing to commit an infinite number of resources to it, and the machine would have engineered a narrative to own the cons, ensuring that everyone would believe we had a sacred duty to them.
