/u/KimJongFunk is the world's smartest Redditor

One of the things I learned in business classes is that a lack of diversity will hurt company's bottom lines because a lack of diversity amongst staff also means a lack of diversity in ideas, talent, and experience. Many studies have shown that companies with more diversity perform financially better than competitors lacking that diversity.

If Wal-mart doesn't make wagies watch HR videos then how will Wal-mart be able to sell anything, chud?

Imagine trying to run a company that sells products and you're planning to launch a marketing campaign that targets a specific demographic. Would you be able to successfully do this without input from someone that is a part of that demographic? Perhaps, but it's easier and better to get input from those people. It's foolish to ignore this all because some people are too ignorant to understand.

Leftoids: we're not racist

Also Leftoids: non-white people are completely incomprehensible without having a token on the team to explain their strange and backward ways

Isn't part of that because a diverse workforce of people from a variety of cultures lowers employee cohesion and they're less likely to unionize or collectively bargain and more likely to turn on each other?

It's true though. For example, it's important to have men on the team to get the perspective of the male feminist demographic

That's weird considering how many of these "diversity consultants" are responsible for some of the most half-assed, out-of-touch depictions of minorities in advertisements and entertainment out there.

In one experiment, the DEI materials made people more willing to agree with Hitler quotes that substituted "Jew" with "Brahmin," the highest caste in the Indian caste system.

The part with the Hitler quotes is kinda silly tbh. Changing the subject of the quote changes the meaning and context of the quote. Replacing "Jew" with "p-dophile" in a Hitler quote doesn't make the rhetoric wrong all of a sudden.

But the overall point of the perception warping effects of DEI training isn't wrong imo.

So what you're saying is that "Brahmin" means "p-dophile"?

"agreement with hitler rhetoric" is such an r-slured metric that theres no point reading it. obviously many people will agree with "adapted quotes" out of context since the whole nazi thing succeeded bc of appealing to populism

Sweaty, let's unpack this.

Many

It was mostly just that McKinsey one.

perform financially better

No, the McKinsey study is bunk: https://www.wsj.com/finance/investing/diversity-was-supposed-to-make-us-rich-not-so-much-39da6a23

Trust the science!

It's also diversity of ideas, not people of different races.

The intro to the WSJ article says race for the McKinsey study, though. Are they also wrong?

Jump in the discussion.

I mean it's the logical conclusion, if 5 people of different races grow up as neighbors and go to the exact same schools they aren't exactly diverse. If you pick 5 people from different parts of the world you will get a very diverse perspective, even if they are all the exact same race.

I agree with you on that. I'm asking if the WSJ is mischaracterizing the McKinsey study, which I understood to consider race and gender diversity vs. business outcomes, not diversity of thought

Without even reading it I know that the study is BS. The objective of these studies is to create cover so the client can implement the change they want.

Once this reaches the rank and file consultants, the conclusion is already predetermined and they have to work backwards to make the data support it.

Funny, all the ideas sound exactly the same as a 26 year old upper middle class white girl in HR. Who'd a thunk

Walmart doesn't market anything.

They sell products, the people making those products handle marketing and pay Walmart for the right to have an "available at Walmart" on the ad.

If it's for black people, the black company can make black-targeted advertisements.

True, Walmart have their own in-house brand, but the marketing for that is "it's the cheaper version of that other product"

He's not wrong. When you look at the Kamala campaign, you just have to look at the staffer demographics to see why it failed to resonate with men.

The issue is that DEI doesn't actually preference people with diverse viewpoints; instead, it's all about cookie cutter white women who think all knowledge of the world can be encompassed in In This House We Believe X, where X is whatever is trending on TikTok right now.
