I make no claims to the capabilities of the IDF (and chances are they're building up) but today's Israel is as far removed from the "cool" Israel everyone LARPs about to the same degree the modern US army is from the Vietnam one. Its previous exploits say more about the capabilities it had and one would presume would have (or maybe would have not) hoped to project into the future than it directly does about current capabilities.

It's not fair, North Korea is a joke, USA isn't doing anything noteworthy, the Russo-Ukrainian war is pathetic, I was hoping at least Israel will be badass. I am gonna be honest, Israeli capabilities seem to have peaked when they built the iron dome.

The Middle easterners still have lots of space to scale up, and they did always have the population advantage.

It's been 12 years since the last time Israel was acting overpowered.

That's 12 years of the standard for being an impressive soldier being shooting a palestinian child with an overpowered rifle from behind a giant wall.

That kind of lifestyle will absolutely lower capabilities.

I've also heard that large swathes of the munitions that Israel would normally have access to were instead committed to the Ukraine war. They have enough to make a strong show of force and still defend themselves, but not necessarily enough to go all out on aggressive expansionist war.

The brave freedom fighters they're after take refuge in hospitals and schools. One would imagine this takes a lot of careful planning beforehand to engage while minimizing collateral damage. If they could politically get away with just hurling rockets without a second thought I imagine they would.
