This can't be ruled out. Qatar is the last of the Gulf monarchies to actually give a shit about Palestine and they pump a lot of gas (methane) (although not oil, so it wouldn't hit gasoline prices).

That's... you know what natural gas is? It's Earth farting. And when we drill for gas we're basically sticking a syringe into Earth's colon to extract the braps prematurely.

Methane's primary use is as a fuel source. It's the primary component of natural gas, which are often used in homes for heating, as well as powering stoves, ovens and water heaters. Methane is used for similar applications in public buildings, it's also used for most industrial applications that require heat, including electricity generation. Methane is more expensive to burn than coal, but it's more flexible and often easier to handle.

Other than as a fuel, the only major use of methane is as a chemical feedstock. It's a very simple molecule, and as such is a useful building block for a wide variety of chemical products.
