The very fact that criticizing the religious ideology of Islam is legally prohibited in most Islamic countries — and that Islamic penalties for apostasy and blasphemy in Islam range from lashing to imprisonment to death TODAY, IN 2024 — ought to infuriate every "liberal" and "progressive" on the planet.
idk why they're shocked, the UK is speedrunning towards the exact same thing lol
It's sad, because a lot of the more Western pro-Palestine people go in with the assumption that everyone fundamentally shares western values of human rights and equality, so there's no way that the Palestinians are actually overwhelmingly in favor of killing/enslaving or (in the case of the more moderate ones) driving out all the Jews in Israel. So when they hear Zionists say that, objectively speaking, this is the default Palestinian position, these well-meaning liberals assume that that's false, but Zionists must be racists to believe that.
I understand that point of view, but it's a low-info perspective and past a certain point refusing to inform yourself on a topic where you're taking strong position is downright immoral. IMHO there's a direct 1-to-1 parallel between American pro-Palestine activists and the America First Committee of WWII.
By the same token, there's a parallel between Israel and 1940s UK
[Hamas] entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everybody else and nobody was going to bomb them. At [Tel Aviv], [Ashdod], [Re'im], and half a hundred other places, they put that rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind and now they are going to reap the whirlwind. [Gaza City], [Khan Yunis], [Rafah]—Those are only just the beginning.
