If you invade a country you need to absolutely destroy the opposition. You then need to occupy the territory for a good 50 or more years before withdrawing

For example in Iraq they should have nationalized the oil. Refined their systems to drastically increase production and used those profits to run the country for 50 or so years before stepping away.

You do that……or you don't go in

Basically true, though. You can't turn a failed country with a corrupt dictatorship into a healthy, independent democratic nation by just squatting your army there for 10 years. You have to rebuild their government and education, training a new generation of administrators and building trust in a new system. That takes decades.

Tell that to the IDF, I suspect they'll be occupying the strip indefinitely, and I don't think there's any unity on a plan of development. Basically similar to Afghanistan.

Also, many people will just blatantly refuse to follow democratic norms and values, no matter what you write into a constitution.

It's just a mess all around. I'm trying not to think about it too much.

The IDF doesn't have the ability or the legal authority to do nation building. That's up to the governments of Israel and whatever other country they can manage to get on board (Maybe the UAE and the US). The problem is that democracy is breaking down in Israel already, so they're not in much of a position to forcibly civilise anyone. In all likelihood their political culture will be arabised before Palestinian political culture is westernised.
