The French deserved everything they got in the Hatian revolution, they had like 10 different opportunities for peace that they squandered trying to win everything and concede nothing.

At (at least) one point the slave leaders offered to send all of their men back into slavery, literally the only conditions the whites had to agree to was freeing the leaders (like 20 guys total) and promising slightly better treatment for slaves, and they couldn't even agree to that.

At least two times they were offered an alliance by the wealthy, powerful, slaveowning coloreds against the blacks. They instead decided that this was a sign the coloreds were getting too uppity and started massacring them in the city streets and passing laws that heavily discriminated against them, all in the name of the spirit of the French Revolution. Of course they were shocked and aghast when the coloreds started to ally with the blacks against them.

And the Haitians also deserved everything they got afterwards. It's a vicious cycle of r-sluration.

I don't think you deserve any sort of retribution for killing the people that kidnapped you from your land and spent years torturing you for economic gain, that's simply the natural thing to do. It was unfathomably brutal even compared to slavery in America, there were about 500,000 slaves in Haiti at the time of the revolution and they had to import 50,000 a year just to keep the population flat. The majority of slaves died within 5-10 years.

But I cannot deny that every Hatian leader after Toussaint Louverture was an African-warlord-tier corrupt r-slur. Which to be fair is basically what they were before being brought to Haiti.

You do for killing and raping all the babies and people who supported your freedom, being logistically r-slurred warlord tier (which Toussaint was enough of even if he could read better than his progeny), and making deals with ruinous powers and heathen gods so you have a chance against against frogs that you already vastly outnumber.

All of that just seems like typical 18th century r-sluration that you could find parallel examples of in the French Revolution. Praying to God(s) for victory in battle and failing to dislodge a fortified, better supplied enemy were not unique to the Hatian blacks.

Other than some brutal slave generals like Dessalines who were consumed by their lust for revenge they never seemed much more savage than the whites who were torturing and crucifying any slave they came across regardless of if they were part of the revolt. Most of the horrible torture and execution methods the blacks performed were learned from the French using them on slaves for decades.
