The facts are that Israel didn't create Hamas, as Islamist groups always existed in Palestine.
But they did indeed fund and assist Hamas to defeat the PLO and it's child the PA, which were secular orgs with much more international legitimacy than Hamas. Israel obviously doesn't like Hamas, but they hate the idea of a legitimate Palestinian state even more.

Propping up militant groups to destabilize governments you don't like is a standard tactic employed by countries around the world. Israel is no exception.

The Muslim Brotherhood from which Hamas emerged existed 20 years before Israel was even founded.
The popularity of socialism was really good IMO because anything is better than Islamism but the retreat of Socialism in the middle east is just because it doesn't really appeal to the masses here quite like shouting allahu wakbar and blowing up a bus. For whatever reason.
