The end goal of the Israelis and most of the tards in Washington on both sides of the aisle is that the Lebanese army will fight a war with Hezbollah and keep them too distracted to harass Israel. Let's see what their official mission is:

Monitoring the Lebanese regional waters, confronting Israeli violations and observing the activities of the Israeli enemy in terms of prohibiting Israeli forces from launching aggressions against Lebanese oil resources inside the Lebanese regional waters.
Fighting terrorist organizations at the eastern and northern borders. In this regard, the Army has managed to drive away these organizations and besieged them throughout the border, thus the Army forces were able to guarantee the security of villages and towns adjacent to the border.

What do the Christians in the army want then? But yeah the idea that Lebanese non-Hezbollah equals pro-Israel is silly. Or that even Lebanese non-Muslim equals pro-Israel either. The idea that Christians support Israel in the Middle-East is funny but also shows how completely out of touch with the region Americans are. The Christian population is the most persecuted and suffering in the middle-east. Not a single country there allows Christians to wear their crucifix outside of Israel.

Now that's where things get complicated. The Israelis want the army to fight Hezbollah but they don't want them too well-armed. Because God forbid, a tiny little country like Lebanon could be a threat to them. So they want to cut off the army's balls and have it fight for them.
Probably more importantly, the Syrians have never wanted them to have a strong army. That's their nightmare. They've been doing divide and rule there for as long as Lebanon has existed. A united army representing the whole country would ruin that for them.
