What ever happened to that "Rojava" thing? When i was in commie spaces people loved to talk up that Kurdish state as like communist paradise in the making.

That was pretty much an online thing for kids like PrinceKropotkin. There's two Kurdish factions native to Iraq and the PKK from Turkey. Those Kurds fighting in Syria were part of the PKK. Evidence: They would put up pictures of the imprisoned leader of the PKK on their wall. This is a very common thing in the Middle East to show which side you're loyal to.

The only real connection with communism is that in the 1980s the Soviets were supporting the PKK. I always hate when people say "supporting" because it's so vague. They were getting money and maybe weapons but I'm not absolutely sure about the latter. When the Soviet Union collapsed, suddenly the PKK (like almost every serious communist party in the world) decided that communism doesn't work. They pivoted toward trying to appeal to less extreme leftoids in Europe.

It happens more often than you would think. Well at least it did during the Cold War when calling yourself a communist meant you got paid by the Russians.

I dunno. I think he faded away before we moved here from reddit. Maybe he finally graduated college and actually has a life now. Or maybe I'm being too optimistic.

Aside from what Redactor said they're in a pseudo-alliance with Assad as he (as the leader of their ostensibly sovreign nation) prevents the Turks from blasting their bussies unconditionally. As seen here though they still do get bitched slapped occasionally anyway.
