Israel has a diversified economy and doesn't rely on US aid. I think that stopped like a decade ago and they didn't even need it then. But if the war goes on forever that's going to mean a big decline in their standard of living.

People forget that US aid to Israel is almost exclusively us selling weapons and technology to them, not economic assistance. Even if the US shut down aid and sanctioned Israel they would probably immediately start buying shit from China (and selling vital intelligence services with them, which is why it would be bad for the US to abandon Israel.

Because the last major war was in 1973 and they've had permanent peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan for decades.
What I'm concerned about for them is that again the plan apparently is to occupy South Lebanon forever. Assuming anyone has a plan. I think they're just drifting into this again with no strategy. But it will be way way more expensive than the 1982-2000 war because Hezbollah can just shoot a rocket every few days and make them shoot Iron Dome at it. I don't see anyone in Israel understanding that when they killed Nasrallah they made a commitment to fight there for years.

I can't predict the future but at the very least, unlike in Gaza, Lebanon has a government that on some level does want to run the country independently. If Hezbollah is crippled enough it might give the government the room they need to finally regain some control of the situation and actually be able prevent Hezb growth.

Yeah they've done many competent operations but the last one I can think of was 18 years ago. They might have rested on their laurels while Israel kept getting stronger. Of course it doesn't help them that Israel has many more resources than they do, so Israel's ceiling is much higher than their ceiling.
