Sam Altman CEO of OpenAI cries Wolf to Senate panel, decides to play on the fear narrative (which politicians take hook, line and sinker) - - to call for licensing and regulation - - which only benefits major players, of course which huge pockets to bribe politicians even more.

Classic play to elbow out upstart small competitors . . . .

Yeah there’s nothing surprising about fighting for regulations that benefit you or provide competitive advantage. Happens all the time with all sorts of shit.

Not 100% sure that’s what he was opining on, though. He seems to be talking about using AI for sneed generation since pretty soon anyone can make a convincing video or photo of a person doing anything.

Obviously there’s still ways to tell, but it’s getting harder.

Altman, asked to opine on which AI should be subject to licensing, said a model that can persuade or manipulate a person's beliefs would be an example of a "great threshold."

"There's no way to put this genie in the bottle. Globally, this is exploding," said Senator Cory Booker, one of many lawmakers with questions about how best to regulate AI.

Senator Mazie Hirono noted the danger of misinformation as the 2024 election nears. "In the election context, for example, I saw a picture of former President Trump being arrested by NYPD and that went viral," she said, pressing Altman on whether he would consider the faked image harmful.

So he wants to prohibit regulate all LLMs, given that arbitrary standard.

The rich stand the most to lose from "AI" defamation, so why don't they let their lawyers and the courts duke it out??

>:marseyjudge: Mr. Grundleberg, your case has no standing because satire is protected speech.
