My main concern with them is that they put too much trust in corporate entities. They'd unironically ask you for some kind of academic paper(that 99% of the time serve corporate interests) to back that up when the reality is fricking 4chan has more peer review than most academic institutions. I remember this guy called madaidan recommending to use Windows over Linux because of better security measures taken in Windows' NT kernel which is true in a sense(but useless when the user doesn't have common sense which is a category 99.99% of Windows users fall into, not to mention when I setup Windows for myself I have to go in a grueling multi-hour de-rslurring session to enchant the system with hundreds of group policies to reduce annoyances) but when confronted about privacy issues resulting in a potential security hazard he just says all the builtin opt-out buttons actually work and calls others trolls and uneducated because reasons.

I feel like for a lot of users iPads and Chromebooks are the best idea. Very secure and long support cycles (which they won’t notice :marsey911roofer: on a Chromebook). Classical desktops like macOS, Windows :marseywindows: and Linux :marseygroomerarch: take enough :marseyitsallsotiresome: understanding of computers I don’t feel like a lot of people comprehend (this has become a talking point :marseydicklet: about Zoomers but the fact is most people do not understand computers. It’s not a generation :marseyreactor: thing and I don’t think :marseymischevious: it’s an intelligence :marppyenraged: or education thing).

I would :marseywould: also delineate between :marseyzeldalinkpast: privacy and security, they are too often talked about a the same thing.
