Question: How do sites synchronize animations?

!codecels pls help

How do sites know to synchronize animations uploaded at different times?

For example:

Comment A (12: 01:01) :pepejannie:

Comment B (12: 01:15) :pepejannie:

Regardless of upload time, the animation in second gif automatically synchronizes with the first, without refreshing the page

Not a filthy web dev so pls explain ty :marseycrayoneater::marseyfluffy:

If it's the same image asset that already exists on the page I think browser just copies it as is from cache.

I could be wrong though, been a while since I've dealt with webshit.

I think this question is related https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11271484/when-multiple-instances-of-same-images-are-embedded-in-an-html-does-that-load-t

It's instanced and rendered locally. Or at least it should be, most browsers are trash so who knows.

each gif comes with its own metadata to manage animation frames, whether it loops, etc. frames are then streamed to the browser, and the next frame can appear after just a few milliseconds

depending on the browser, gifs could be synced, or maybe the animation gap is so small you wouldn't notice
