Advent of Code Last Minute Leaderboard Pre-Lash

https://adventofcode.com/2023/leaderboard/private

I realized that last year's leaderboard was probably run by Snakes and idk if anyone is on top of it this year ( it may also have belonged to @Platy) but I don't have the invite code so I made a new one.

Anyways I'm not a janny and won't be nolifing it the second it comes out and have no authority to make badges but you can join and we can be chill about it.

If @Merryvann or @CARPMASflorist was already talking with someone on the backend idk you can hijack this thread it's okay. I just wanted to have something ready for when it starts in 6 hours

Also I've never done one of these and assume it's like Project Euler but seasonal.

I don't read APL so I don't know if it's real and I'm pretty sure it only working 99% of the time is a flaw

But impressive squiggles nonetheless. I'll send it over

All efficient edge cut algorithms are probabilistic, you could change it to "run again if the output is zero" and it'd be 100%.

I thought that too since my main language is embedded C until I started having to use c# for work this year and it's actually surprisingly quick to prototype and I have a sick fetish for writing elaborate linq queries so I'm gonna give it a whirl this year

:#marseyyikes:

I like LINQ but I basically always use the actual C# function calls and not the fancy "kinda like SQL but not really" syntax.

Unfortunately the standard container library in C# sucks real bad compared to Java. where's my computeIfAbsent()???? and don't even get be STARTED on the retardation of C# datetime objects.

You might be right but writing Java is for boomers and students forced by boomer professors so I don't do it

heckin RUDE and UNCALLED FOR

In truth I mostly use it at work bc various gigantic open-source libraries are on JVM so we don't have much of a choice, and it's imo better than the plethora of absurd JVM languages like Scala

that's a pretty dramaphobic opinion to have on Scala - a highly neurodivergent language where Nil, None, Nothing, and null all represent different values

its fun as heck to write. not so great to read.

My experience with it primarily deals with reading/patching large Scala libraries.

So yeah I fricking hate it. Trying to figure out all the magic shit it's doing has given me a new appreciation for Java. Java may be verbose, but I'm never unsure of what a bit of code does. It's always dead obvious. The boilerplate may be annoying but my IDE writes most of it anyways.

When I did a Java course making the IDE work for me properly was an absolute revelation.

I use C but if your language is completely encapsulated in another more popular language you're going to get grouped together

awk is such a beautiful language. It's been long overshadowed in the data science space by pandas, but I would love to see what awesome things could be done with it.

That said, I'm too stubborn to write anything new in it. I refuse to learn how to make pipes on a Mac.
