Are 'Smart' TV's really the only option for a nice 4K HDR experience? Can a 32" computer monitor not do the trick?

Please, frens I don't want to put a botnet in my house....

OLED monitors just started coming on the market at decent prices within the last two years or so, hard to beat that.

Literally just don't hook it up to the internet and thank the normies for watching $500 worth of ads that are discounted from the price.

That's what I do. Fixes the botnet/spyware problem but I'm still aggravated to no end by how slow the UI can be because of all the shit that the TV is trying to do in the background instead of just being a TV. That makes me wish there was a dumb TV market but BIPOCcattle gonna BIPOCcattle. At least the price for these is nice. The deals I see for 30-40 inch screens are pretty great.

I'm convinced that the lack of dumb TV is a conspiracy against people who don't want to see ads. I looked on Amazon for thirty minutes for a TV that wouldn't show me ads, and I just couldn't fricking find one.

The good news is that my family has an old TV back before TVs were computers designed to serve ads. So I took that one home.

I think the commercial/outdoors versions of some TV lines are still dumb TVs, but the display quality is going to suffer since they're meant to be as cheap as possible.

I have never seen a TV that forces its own ads in unless you're using one of their apps. I'm pretty sure if you're using cable or something over one of the inputs that's not going to happen.

No.

Despite techies hating them, the general public likes having apps for their streaming services on their TV's.

There's nothing nice about living 1984. Buy a monitor. All decent screens perform the same in practice. They only look different side by side

Why plug the tee-vee in to the internet?

Don't most people pirate or use the DVD player on the laptop connected via HDMI?

No, a computer monitor is typically going to be higher-quality but also more expensive. The smart TV is the cattle option because with a TV you typically don't really care about things like input lag or refresh rate.

i have a fancy samsung OLED and it doesnt display any ads.

you can disagree with all the terms and conditions and it lets you use it with the gay features disabled.

if you really dont like it you can just plug in a raspi or whatever.

tbf i am running it thru an ad filtering dns proxy thing so maybe that is stopping the ads

I tried to buy a dumb tv for my grandma. They really don't exist anymore. I found some meant for sports bars but they were more expensive than a smart tv with the same specs.

There is nothing wrong with a 32" computer monitor if that's the size tv you want, but I'm almost certain it will cost more than a smart tv

Get her a smart TV and never plug it into the internet. Just get a Roku and tell her the Roku is where the stations are.
