To srspost for a second, this is bad for the future internet, and if it happens, I’m going to blame both Big Tech and cancel culture for this. Not much Drama, just me :marseyschizo:posting and :marseyseethe:posting.

Prior coverage

As the drama continues, and a based new fork was made, which really makes the Pale Moon developers seethe,, Moonchild writes a new manifesto, proclaiming he would make developing forks harder for everyone, due to "mob rule".

After Moonchild’s message, coincidentally, it turns out the latest version is placed into a login wall,, which eventually takes the Drama all the way to Reddit. Moonchild denies that he violated the MPL

However, it turns out to only be a temporary glitch, but one of the instigators, JustOff, is still not satisfied, leading to a mild, boring slapfight between another developer.

More Bird Farms

I know, boring continuation of prior drama, but entertaining rants are to still be found.

Many researchers have conjectured that the humankind is simulated along with the rest of the physical universe – a Simulation Hypothesis. In this paper, we do not evaluate evidence for or against such claim, but instead ask a computer science question, namely: Can we hack the simulation? More formally the question could be phrased as: Could generally intelligent agents placed in virtual environments find a way to jailbreak out of them. Given that the state-of-the-art literature on AI containment answers in the affirmative (AI is uncontainable in the long-term), we conclude that it should be possible to escape from the simulation, at least with the help of superintelligent AI. By contraposition, if escape from the simulation is not possible, containment of AI should be, an important theoretical result for AI safety research. Finally, the paper surveys and proposes ideas for hacking the simulation and analyzes ethical and philosophical issues of such an undertaking.

Splunk Files Intellectual Property Lawsuit Against Cribl

Splunk Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLK), the data platform leader for security and observability, today announced that it filed a lawsuit against Cribl in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, alleging patent infringement, copyright infringement, unfair competition, and other claims. The complaint alleges that Cribl infringes numerous Splunk copyrights and patents, and has unlawfully misappropriated Splunk source code and confidential materials.

Splunk’s complaint alleges that Clint Sharp, CEO and Co-founder of Cribl, founded Cribl using code that he took from Splunk when he was a Splunk employee without permission or a license to do so. Splunk further alleges that Cribl and Mr. Sharp encouraged Splunk employees, who they recruited to Cribl, to misappropriate confidential technical and business documents from Splunk. Moreover, Splunk alleges that since then, Cribl has developed and marketed its software by, among other things, making unlicensed copies of Splunk’s copyrighted software, and is willfully infringing numerous patents awarded to Splunk by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

According to the complaint, Cribl is “a business built on the back of Splunk’s labor and intellectual property, without license and without regard for ethics, the rights of others, or the law.” The complaint explains further that unfortunately Cribl’s actions left Splunk no choice but to file this lawsuit. While Splunk is disappointed that Cribl’s behavior and wrongdoing have forced it to take this action, Splunk is confident the judicial process will determine that Cribl has infringed and misappropriated Splunk’s intellectual property for Cribl’s own benefit. This case is about Cribl’s misconduct. Splunk is not changing how it works with customers and partners, and looks forward to continuing to help them leverage Splunk to drive great insights and effective results.

Cydia Files Appeal After Unofficial App Store's Lawsuit Against Apple Dismissed - MacRumors

Cydia Files Appeal After Unofficial App Store's Lawsuit Against Apple Dismissed

District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers dismissed the company's antitrust lawsuit against Apple last month, according to court documents. SaurikIT sued Apple in late 2020, alleging that the company has an illegal monopoly over iOS app distribution given that the App Store is the only authorized marketplace where users can download apps on the iPhone and iPad. The complaint also alleged that Apple has «consistently tried to snuff out alternative app stores,» including Cydia. Cydia launched in early 2008, months before Apple's own App Store.

For example, long before Apple introduced the Control Center on the iPhone, there was a tweak available on Cydia called SBSettings that offered similar functionality. SaurikIT is owned by Jay Freeman, who is one of several developers and companies who have sued Apple for alleged anticompetitive behavior in relation to the App Store over the past few years, with others including Fortnite creator Epic Games, streaming music service Spotify, FlickType keyboard app creator Kosta Eleftheriou, and more. Apple has repeatedly denied that the App Store is a monopoly given that it faces competition from the Google Play store on Android devices. Apple has also repeatedly touted the privacy and security benefits of the App Store, arguing that third-party app stores on the iPhone could expose users to fraud, malware, and other risks.

I trust Apple far more than random developer #329487 when it comes to security and privacy. I’m not sure if this lawsuit has any merit, but neither does Apple when they make up excuses to block sideloading.

Apple Fails in Bid to Dismiss Cydia Creator's Amended Antitrust Lawsuit

Apple has lost a bid to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit filed against it by Jay Freeman, creator of an alternative App Store known as Cydia for «jailbroken» iPhones and iPads. Freeman sued Apple in late 2020, alleging that Apple has an illegal monopoly over iOS app distribution through the App Store. Prominent developer Kosta Eleftheriou has settled his 2021 lawsuit against Apple over its App Store review actions that he said hindered his ability to distribute apps on the platform while allowing copycat competitors to flourish, reports TechCrunch. «The United States Justice Department is in the early stages of crafting an antitrust complaint against Apple, reports Politico.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney Calls Apple's App Store a 'Disservice to Developers'
