:marseydarktrump: Daddy has some unique ideas about how to end the ukro-rusko conflict in a way that leaves neither country happy :marseysoldierrussia: :marseyzelensky:

Ukraine: loses territories, can't enter NATO, but still gets protected by NATO

Russia: keeps Ukraine as a buffer state, keeps the conquered territories, but has to deal with even more NATO at it's borders

Tbf it's not the worse solution he could come up with :marseyshrug:

I mean. It's honestly not the worst idea tbh. Reading it's more a Pompeo plan than a Trump plan.

Yeah, he actually tried to find a sensible solution instead of just abandoning Ukraine :marseyagree: Selling those NATO troops at Russia's border to Putin will be pretty hard tho

there's basically no chance putin goes for it, it undercuts his previous rhetoric about being worried about nato encroachment, even if he doesn't actually believe that he's gotta sell it to his citizens

but that might be the point, if putin rejects a reasonable-sounding deal trump can continue feeding munitions to ukraine and respond to complaints with "look, what do you want me to do? I had a reasonable proposal and putin rejected it, it's on him"

It's literally in his darned book. Go in, throw a hand grenade (a completely unreasonable offer) and that will immediately get people discussing what they ACTUALLY want instead of kitty-footing around

He's basically doing the Nixon madman thing. Except people actually believe it.

Russian's will believe what they're told to believe. That isn't changing anytime soon. The only question is how badly is Putin looking for an out.

Russia just had the 3 best months of territorial gains since August of '22. In that time, they gained 995.57 square km, or less than a third of the total size of Rhode Island. They may not run out of men, but their military stockpiles are drained and their economy is a mess. It'll take decades to fix this if they start now, another year or two will be devastating. Putin looking for an escape hatch on a war he expected to not last a month may not be completely crazy.

i mean, i certainly hope you're right, but he's had lots of issues with domestic sentiment before and there are lots of people taking a harder line than he is

if he takes a crappy deal he'll probably actually have to do some purging and that's always a risk unless they're total r-slurs

if putin rejects a reasonable-sounding deal

This is why I'm livid about the "maximum pressure" bullshit with Iran. In diplomacy you don't announce "hey everyone, I'm going to be totally intransigent and insist on getting everything I want". You make a reasonable offer and either the Iranians refuse and prove that they're the ones causing the conflict or they accept and you actually get what you want. But nobody gives a shit about America's national interests. They just have to act tough for domestic audiences.
